I loved that even though this book featured romance and some possible relationships, the book didn’t stray from the main plot, and the girls character traits didn’t change because of a love interest.
Unfortunately I didn’t fully connect with the characters, I didn’t think about the book much after I read it. I will definitely read the sequel, but I didn’t like the series enough to want to go back snd read it again anytime soon.

I only wished their romance would have developed even further.
But do I really like the book?
Similar to The Spanish Love Deception this book too has multiple tropes such as the one-bed-trope and they do not seem forced and flowed well into the plot.
Still, the book just is not too tier…
Further thoughts during my reread:
„He looks as though he’s built out of solid muscle, but I beg I could take him were I not locked up.“ (pg. 225)
Flaws of the characters a main focus: No. and that is simply because the protagonist just doesn’t have any.
While rereading the book I figured Alosa (protagonist) is way too powerful. She just has it all. The talk, the walk, the hair. No, seriously she is able to do anything she wants and she spends way to much time telling the reader she could do that, if she only wanted to, but couldn’t because oh well it’s all part of a bigger plan. She has no weaknesses and is undefeatable. Comments like „I am always the one in control“ (pg. 185) or „being half siren makes me dangerous“ lead me to decreasing the rating by -1 star. It just started to bother me. The book is still a fun read, just a little boring on that behalf.
The invulnerable Alosa is really starting to get on my nerves. Like it is actually bad.
Furthermore, Alosa always says she hates being her siren self and had deep trauma towards that. But then when she uses her abilities all is suddenly fine…

I'm genuinely in love.
This book was phenomenal! It's easily my favorite high fantasy since I read Six of Crows. Yes, It's on the same level. The characters were well-rounded and badass, the plot was present, but not overbearing, and the romance was slow-burned and exciting to read about. Our main character was amazing, as was her crew. The creepy guys in this book were rightly villainized, and the one's that weren't were also lovely. A near perfect high fantasy, and I can't wait to read the second book. Even if you don't like high fantasy, the world isn't that complicated so it's easy to read, and it's absolutely wonderful one at that.
Our main character, Alosa, has completely changed my expectations for the badass main character role, as has the relationship. The best part is she didn't go soft when she started to get feelings- no she just got stronger to protect those she cares about. Yes. Yes. I'm furious with myself for not reading this book sooner, and I wish I had this book in my life for longer than I have- which is a few days. Nevertheless, I love this book (if that's not clear.)
Check out the trigger warnings first, and other than that, read this book, I plead of you.
