Oh my gosh. That ending!

I should be a detective because I can almost always guess how YA mysteries end. And most of the time it’s with nausea and disappointment.

Did she or did she not kill Zoe Spanos?

The immense amount of plot twists this book contained- like you think you’ve solved it and everything has been revealed and then BAAM the last chapter and I’m screaming.

I loved the nature of this novel, set during the lazy summer days in the rich neighborhood- immediately yes. Anna Cicconi is the new nanny for a rich family living in the Hamptons. However last New Years a girl
went missing that looks exactly like Anna.

The book is set during the summer (from Anna’s POV) and also in the autumn (from Martina’s POV) when Anna is arrested.
The story also gets told through podcast transcripts made by Martina- who is Zoe’s sisters best friend.

<spolier>As a whole I really enjoyed this novel however the whole sister thing at the end was frustrating. It really felt like an unnecessary addition and it felt really clichéd. I kind of liked the eeriness that came with them looking mysteriously alike. </spolier>

Overall solid book 4/5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed I Killed Zoe Spanos. The beginning was a bit slow for me but the speed did pick up and I could not stop reading it. The story was intriguing and I needed to find out more.

I was obviously thinking a lot about A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (my favorite book) when I was reading Zoe Spanos. But they're both unique in their own ways.

To be honest, I didn't feel that connected to the characters. Martina was probably my favorite though. She wasn't one-sided and actually continued looking for answers!

SpoilerIs it bad that I hoped they found out the whole truth?

everything i thought would happen did not happen… like they were SISTERS??? and ASTER DID IT??? yeah what the hell

A random pick from the 'available now audio' list on the library app as I needed some background listening. Reminiscent of the YA/thriller books I read as a YA, in a charming way. If I rated it back then, probably pretty high. Rating it now, maybe a 3, it was distracting for the day and I will pretty much forget it.

Good mystery that kept me guessing all the way to the end. The ending was disappointing though. I had wanted it to go differently.
I loved the incorporation of the podcast into the story and the multiple POVs throughout. Overall it was a good mystery, I just wished for a different ending.
