A very well-written, well-researched, and enjoyable read. It's clear that Molly Ball put a lot of care into reporting and writing this book, and there were so many anecdotes that were perfectly placed and illuminative of Nancy Pelosi's outlook and attitude. Would love to see an addendum that goes through the 2020 as well.

A broad book that expertly covers Nancy Pelosi’s life. It has a clear narrative of her impressive political career. It’s got pages and pages of notes, so you know it’s well-reported.
But I just didn’t jive with the writing. It was narrative rather than journalistic, which I think was to its detriment. It painted Pelosi as a nearly flawless figure, rather than grappled with any of her difficult decisions, mistakes or regrets.

YAS QUEEN!
I have so much to say I am rendered speechless. Thank you Molly Ball for an honest and fair biography for Pelosi. Now that’s an inspiration and a role model who is authentic, stays on the issue, and got shit done.Praise the lord for badass Nancy Pelosi!
“In the end it didn’t matter what they called her. In the end they did what she wanted.” OPERATIONAL queen indeed.

I seldom write reviews but WOW did Ball crush this book.
Detailed, exacting, measured reporting. The book is as much about Pelosi as it is about the daily functions of Congress.
Read this book for a deeper understanding of American governance.

I knew from the recommendations that this was going to be an interesting book. I had not realized that I would become completely absorbed by it.
A tremendous piece of writing that doesn't fit neatly into a single category.

4.5 stars. A very entertaining while also illuminating account on a politician who is also a female. I think no matter whether you agree with her politics or not, you'd find a way to respect her accomplishments and tenacity as a master legislator and wielder of votes.
Also useful if you want to know how legislation in the US House of Representatives are made (and unmade). And how hard it is to bridge very diverse voices in one's party. And how no matter how many Twitter followers to you have, hard power - getting the votes - is what matters the most. I learned a lot from this book.
Thank you for the publisher, Henry Holt and Company, for this copy! What a treat. I am having a great discussion as well in the Non Fiction Book Club https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/21576817
