I don’t even know where to begin with this book.
It felt like reading a fan fiction, and not in a good way.
The writing style is hard to read, it doesn’t fit the story.
The characters are one-dimensional and the inner monologue of the FMC is hard to read, it’s like reading the inner monologue of a 13 year old.
The plot had the potential to be good, but just fell flat because there was too much emphasis on trying to make the book spicy.
The spice fell flat because it felt disjointed, like it was just there for the sake of being there.
Honestly, this book had the potential to be good - a spicy retelling of Beauty and The Beast could have been SO good, but it just felt really flat. Fantasy books need immersive world building to be enjoyable, and I just couldn’t understand the setting for this story.

I will be reading the second book just to see if it gets better, but I won’t be holding my breath.

I loved the FMC! She's badass, smart, witty, quirky, but not too much, and foul-mouthed! Looooved her!

The MMC, on the other hand, was completely bland. I couldn't give less of a fuck for him.
Their story was so infuriating, simply because of the misunderstandings and secrets.

I hate the trope where the main issue in a book can be easily fixed if there weren't secrets kept. This book would've been 20 pages long in that case. I'm not giving it any more of my time because of that.

It ends on a cliffhanger (as well as the sequels, I've looked it up), but I'm not that invested in it, simply because of the shitty chemistry between the FMC and MMC.

Beauty and the beast retelling with spice, except the FMC is not a tiny wilting damsel and the palace staff is a little freaky. The author is funny; that’s a big draw for me. I’ll be reading the next one.
