This was pretty slow going for me, I had heard so many positive things about this series that I wanted to know what it was about. I am so glad I pushed through and finished the whole series. I really enjoyed it!

I was not the target audience for this book. The synopsis lead me to believe I'd like this retelling but I did not.
Firstly, the writing was too juvenile for my taste. It was like "Mean Girls" meets "Animal House".
Secondly, the author attempted to create a world but it was poorly executed in my opinion. The story is set in modern times, but a curse as be bestowed upon the land, so they all live like it's medieval times. They very occasionally mention how they use to have running water or electricity. It left me wondering why she didn't just set it in that time frame.
I will not be finishing this series. (I'm surprised I actually finished this book)

This book was trying way too hard to be funny and edgy. It’s like the author wanted to cram as much sex jokes as humanly possible in one book

I started reading this book and everything was trucking along just fine in this beauty and the beast retelling.
A girl who is smart and loves reading books βœ”
A beast that roams around outside of a castle βœ”
A cursed kingdom βœ”

Add in shapeshifters and not only shapeshifters but shapeshifters that are getting sick from a curse and dying. And "Beauty" trying to find a cure and having to venture into the forest that is rumored to have a "beast". Great. Great. Everything is coming along fine. Oh and add in the fact that there are demons. Like succubus and incubus. Sounds great. Then bam. Literally a sex train of men. YUP. I was so thrown off. I had to stop reading the book. I stopped reading the book for a week but I was actually really into the story. Sooooo, a week later I picked it back up. Now that I knew that there were going to be man trains, I went into the book a bit more open minded. And really when I realize the reason for all the sex, I was actually ok with it. It just threw me off. This being the first book in the series, it did a perfect job at getting me into it enough to continue reading the rest of the books that are out. I do really like the twist with the demons and shifters.
So, if you are going to read this, go into it being prepared for some interesting moments and know that the books/story gets better as you get further into the series.
