While very dark, also very funny with one of my all time favorite characters, Hadriel.

Very Interesting premise, it was a great change from the typical type of retelling I'm used to.

If you ignore the insta-lust and 2 day relationship, the book is still bad.

What time period are we in? It's like, traditional "medieval" fantasy with the villages and castles and stuff, but then our girl drops phrases like "clusterfuck" and I don't know where the hell I am.

The Beast and not-Belle's entire romance was less than a week, and I was not feeling the fluttery love vibes by the end. Lust? For sure; the two were horny as hell for each other from page 1. But love? Nah.

Also why was Gaston's counterpart Jedrek even part of the story? He added literally no value besides being the necessary town hawt village manwhore who only likes the girl for her beauty.

Maybe I should ask the weird-ass "folks" who live in Finley's head...

I think a 14 year old boy wrote this.

It's the only explanation.

Loved the characters and their personalities, but I just wish something more happened.. very little spice between them, which was very disheartening, lol.

Fun shifter darkish fantasy

I read on kindle unlimited.

This book is a spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling, set in a shifter kingdom that has been placed under a curse by the demon king. It reminded me of the comedy from Blood of Hercules and some of the shifter vibes from Flames of Chaos (but no where near that level of spice). It’s a fun book and I look forward to the rest of the series - which promises more spice.

Finley lives in the poorest of villages in the kingdom. She is our typical healer main character, who will risk her life for everyone around her and for the kingdom. She does have a pretty sassy personality, which I can appreciate and offers a level of comedic relief to their dreary situation She works with her brother to take care of her sick father and younger siblings. She does the more traditional male roles (hunting))while her brother takes on the more traditional feminine obligations (cooking). In true Beauty and the Beast fashion the town hunk is convinced she will be his bride and have his babies. We all know how that will go.

Finley, being the savior/healer of her village, has to sneak into the Forbidden Woods to secure the healing plant to help her village, which is where she encounters the beast.

The beast aka Nyfain is one of the most hot/cold MMCs I’ve experienced. His personality is basically: “I’m going to tell you to stay away from me and that I don’t like you and then I’m going to mount you in the next breath.” This continues throughout the whole book. This man really irked me at the end. You’ll see…. But he is described as surly more times than is necessary. As is Finley.

We don’t know all the pieces of the curse, other than the villagers are impacted differently than those at the castle, which is probably a good thing because the castle is just a massive orgy. We don’t know exactly what will end the curse but it has to do with Nyfain

The vibes were vibing. I liked the dynamic between Nyfain and Finley for the most part. Fated mates? Maybe?

This is a very character driven plot. Ending isn’t a cliffhanger so much as setting things up for the next book. I was like 99% of the way through it and kept waiting for the shoe to drop. I can’t say that I saw the ending coming, but it annoyed the poop out of me.

Romance rating - wow the story progresses, I would not say there is a ton of romance however, Nyfain does give a pretty swoon worthy speech at one point.

Spice -

This was pretty good! Nyfain is a sweetheart. Can’t wait for the next!! 3/5.
