Read this for women in translation month. The story starts after the state of Israel is created and part one ends with the rape and murder of a Bedouin woman. part two is set decades later that follows a woman who wants to know the story of the woman who was raped and murdered. I am more of a plot person so this book was a bit hard to get into because it is very focused on the details and slow moving, but by the end of part 1, I got into the purposeful nature of the details. Part 2 mirrored some of the details of part one from the dog to the spiders in haunting ways. This part of the book really got into the insidious and everyday nature of violence, surveillance, and fear that exists for Palestinians. This is where the power of details really revealed itself. The ending was a gut punch.
