I did not enjoy this book and I literally made an account on here just so I could write this review.

Yes, the smut was REALLY good (as we expect from Penelope Douglas) but maybe that's the only good thing about it. I don't even dislike it because of the incest, because tbh they aren't blood related, although the one thing I found weird about it was her calling Jake "uncle" only in sexual settings.  I found myself hitting my head and screaming because of frustration numerous times reading it. The plot was just so confusing? Like why did she end up with the one she ends up with when they literally had zero chemistry between them. Z.E.R.O.!!! The choices the main character makes were just so frustrating! And her inner dialogue? Super weird.

Tiernan gets sexualy abused multiple times, but it's just brushed of later on, when her inner dialogue tells us she actually enjoyed it even though before she was literally screaming "stop" and trying to run away. Like what?

I did like the first half of the book when it was just her and Jake, she should have chosen him. They had the most conversations, the most chemistry, he was the hottest and most caring. I still can't get over her choosing the mute one instead. They literally hadn't talked once but she loved him? WHY?!? Cuz he gave her steak?? Also the scene where he throws her birth control in the trash???

I'm so mad, I really tried liking it, and I did some parts, that's why it gets 2, and not just 1 star, but I can't get over how it COULD have been such a good book. It has so much potential but it just isn't. It's not.

This book is essentially an explicit Fruits Basket. We've got: 1) emotionally stunted heroine 2) older uncle/head of household 3) the sweet age-appropriate boy and 4) the jerk age-appropriate boy. And if the book kept up the tone of the first half, it would be an easy five stars. But this book is very clearly split into two: before winter and after winter. The first half is reflective and believable. The second half starts checking boxes. I'd hate the second half if the explicit content wasn't fire.

This is such a "wtf did I just read?" book. I'm seriously dumbfounded. I started reading this because I saw lots and lots of people recommending this so I had high expectations, but then when I actually read it I was like "wtf is this?" Seriously, spare yourselves.

I read this based off a friend’s recommendation (who read it based of BookTok recommendations). I was already aware of the
semi-incestuous (or is it quasi-incestuous?)
romance in the book and thought I could handle it but after reading it all go down, I can safely say I was not prepared. I absolutely hated Jake and couldn’t wrap my head around the way his relationship with Tiernan was framed as both familial and protective but also sexual
like when she calls him uncle during sex

Consent is a big issue in this book so if you’re triggered by dubious consent, I wouldn’t recommend this book.  If you’re into porn without a plot, as well as dark themes like taboo romances, you’ll probably enjoy this book.
