If the story of Alice in Wonderland and the Inkheart trilogy got together and had a child, it would be this book.

That being said, I absolutely can not stand the story of Alice in Wonderland (something about it REALLY creeps me out, and always has) and it slightly pains me to even bring up the Inkheart trilogy because I hold that series so near and dear to me.

That's me holding Inkheart. Not Furthermore.

So let's just get it all out in the open. I didn't like Furthermore. I thought the plot was...fine, nothing extremely original, and the characters talked like they were either really prim British people, or were way too old for their ages. The writing was so pretentious that at times I skipped over paragraphs full of descriptions because I really didn't need to know the exact color and shape of ever flower that our main character, Alice, was seeing.

That being said, I do think that the magic idea of the plot and how it was implemented was pretty cool. Though the whole thing felt a bit rushed and I was constantly caught in this whirlwind, wondering what the hell was actually going on. Maybe I'm just getting too old for children stories (that's a depressing thought)?

I had to read the ending twice to make sure I got what had happened because it was all resolved in about ten pages. TEN PAGES for a 400 page book. So while we are left with pages and pages of descriptions, there was also an extremely rushed ending that had me putting down the book and realizing I probably won't pick it up ever again.

It does have a gorgeous cover though. I will give the publishers credit for that.

And I do have to admit that this is my first Mafi book that I've ever read, but that just makes me even more hesitant to try her Shatter Me series if the writing is going to be similar. And not in a good way.

What do you think? Are you still going to try this one? Have you already read it? Tell me your thoughts!

I really really love the cover. It's so colorful and detailed.
The story is good enough. It might not be perfect, with boring spots here and there, but at least I'm satisfied with the plot and the ending. It's totally a good read for middle grades.

TAHEREH IS DEFINITELY MY FAV AUTHOR.
ok, let me start with clarifying few things:
1- im NOT a fan of alice in wonderland
2- Im not keen in children's books
3- i don't like cliches
now, that being said, Tahereh is honestly a master of words, her talent is so obvious, she has her own unique voice. you could see her style clearly and its a Great one.
the book in one way or another is a changed/ slightly twisted retelling of Alice in wonderland, However, she looks nothing like the real alice.
the characters are amaaaazing, the writing style is obviously great, the way you read it as if someone is narrating the story, yet at the same time talking to you is just so amusing. her choice of words and phrases and explanations is beyond what i can put into perspective.
all that aside, the amount of work, and the amazingly imaginative world we were sent to is something astounding! i could not wrap my head around, how can someone imagine something this weird all the while not crossing the line, AND keeping the story coherent.
the book was so adorable, amazing, fun, very fast paced, and its one of those books that you just dont want to end.
what i also loved about this book is the new perspective tahereh made us think of. COLOR! where she indirectly made the darker the people, the darker the color, the better they are, in the world we were at ,at least, and how more beautiful and talented they are percieved, all the while, proving a point, that even if you got no color, you can still be something great. And THAT is what was slightly embeded in the crazy world i got out of. let's say, the take home message, after you've enjoyed the craze.
If you're like me, and dislike what i mentioned above, OR if you like it anyways, go ahead and read the book, i know you won't regret it.

I will admit, I'm usually not a huge fan of middle grade, but I actually enjoyed this book. I bought it before I knew it was middle grade, but I'm glad I finally listened to the audiobook.

It is a fun and beautifully-written novel. I think young readers will thoroughly enjoy reading about Alice and Oliver. Their love/hate friendship is so cute, and I must admit they grew a lot throughout the plot of the book. The journey to find Alice's father was a thriller-filled experience, and with every turn, you learn more and more about Alice and Oliver.

As usual, Tahereh's writing had me in awe, tears, and cheering throughout the story. Her way to poetically make you see everything so visually is what I always admire in writing. It is not a easily accomplished task, but she hits the mark every time.

Still an autobuy author for me.
