Okay, so maybe sports romances just don't work for me if they're not enemies/rival to lovers.

But also, this book was just WEIRD. What in the world does the FMC's dad being murdered by someone tangentially related to the MMC's family have to do with the romance plot? Nothing, because the entire setting surrounds the hockey team, so it's a really weird plot element to include since it amounts to no real character growth.

The MMC gave me the ick. I really just don't like the overbearing billionaire trope and I'll never forgive fifty shades for making that toxic shit so mainstream. It also a bit suspends belief that

a FMC who "hates money" so much that she donated 400k to charity without paying off her student loans would be just fine with her not-boyfriend paying for everything. I don't really know why I even finished this book, other than needing to mainline some junk romance lit before moving on with Throne of Glass. I'm not taking insta reel recs anymore!
