ENG
Although it was not an easy read because each chapter was filled with raw deep emotions, I inhaled this book in one sitting. I might have cried more than I have in a good while but it was worth it. I loved to see characters who felt real. I loved to see romance which was not perfect but at the same time, the love they felt for esch other was unmatched. I loved to see human joys and struggles. This book was just a perfect portrayal of life that is complex. I can't wait for the sequel because now my standards are set very high.
P.s. I recommend listening to this book because narrators are amazing! I had started but then had to switch to ebook because I was so invested and it would take me much longer to get through.
(diversity: black characters, talks about grief, depression and stillbirth)

After reading this I told a friend that I'd finally found the the perfect RomCom for me. Her response: this was not a RomComโ€ฆ *womp womp* Me: But itโ€™s a spicy romance and itโ€™s funny! ๐Ÿ˜

Divorced parents Josiah and Yasmen own a soul food restaurant together while amicably co-parenting their children. Both are trying to move on with their lives while doing what's best for their children. They are older than your prototypical romance MCs, which I found so relatable. Characters are well developed - down to lovable, protective, & expressive dog Otis.

It is true that this was not a light-hearted, happy-go-lucky read. Depression, mental health, stigmas, grief, and loss are highlighted and handled with care. The plot goes much deeper than the slow burning, fiery passion between the two MCs. And how I loved exploring the relationship between them and their kids as well as adult friendships.

Kennedy Ryan had me on an emotional roller-coaster, alternating between laughing, crying, and grinning ear-to-ear. I loved the jokes and appreciated that there were many words I had to look up. I can't wait to read Soledad's story!

TW: Child Death, Miscarriage, Grief, Loss, Death of Parent, Suicidal Thoughts.
