This was my first Bill Bryson book, and I listened to it on audio; the narration was great! I enjoyed Bryson's style, and the way he seamlessly delivered both personal anecdotes and interesting information. Ultimately, though, this didn't cover as much of the AT as I was hoping for, and my interest trailed off in the latter parts. That's what knocked it down a star for me, and the other star I've taken off is for the casual misogyny thrown around by Bryson and his traveling companion. Sure, it was a different time, but I don't really find nicknaming a waitress "Betty Sluts" or an extended anecdote about a fat woman's underwear to be all that funny.

Bryson is my favorite travel author, and this is my favorite of his books. I was laughing out lous within the first five pages and did not stop. This is a great light read for all-comers.
