i liked anthony horowitz’s other mysteries so i picked this up when i saw it on discount in a jb bookstore, even tho i haven’t read the first two books. but i couldn’t really enjoy this at all - both hawthorne and horowitz are annoying characters, when usually it’s the characters that keep one coming back to a mystery series. definitely won’t be checking out the rest.

Had a _really_ difficult time with Anthony's initial inability to connect the dots with the haiku. It just seemed completely unrealistic, and felt somehow lazy on real-life Horowitz's part. While this tainted the book for me to a surprising degree, I still enjoyed the rest of it, and while I hadn't figured the whole thing out, I had noted a good portion of the clues that ended up being the relevant ones, and both murderers were at the top of my suspect list. Good book, shame about the haiku.

Horowitz and Hawthorne are back in another clever murder mystery. This time it's set at a literary festival.
