Everything I wanted out of another Hawthorne mystery. A cozy mystery a la Midsomer or any other British mystery, but in my favorite style of breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging itself. I am very pleased and look forward to more!

probably the best so far from Tony and Hawthorne I had ZERO idea what was going on but I would have read 50 more pages thrown in - 5

"How could he be so reasonable and so irritating at the same time?"

Continued fun with Hawthorne and [metafiction-injected] Horowitz as a modern-day reimagining of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.

I continue to find this series and the mysteries offered up by Horowitz (actual author, not just character here) as incredibly entertaining and enjoyable. The humor and playfulness add a wonderful lightness to an otherwise gruesome crime, and the two main characters bounce off each other for a brilliant bit of balance. (Though I am starting to get a bit tired of Horowitz's (character here, not actual author) bumbling and buffoonery.)

Audiobook, as narrated by [a:Rory Kinnear|4503082|Rory Kinnear|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]: Kinnear is an excellent audiobook performer. Kinnear nails it and I am going to be totally shocked, I think, if the actual Horowitz (author, not character) doesn't sound like Kinnear. Maybe I'll avoid it as long as I can.

I absolutely adore Anthony Horowitz and all his books. For some reason though, I didn't get the feel like I normally do while reading this novel.

I'm not sure if is because of how he wrote himself almost being the "bad guy" this time around because everyone absolutely loved Hawthorne the whole time. It was almost like Hawthorne could do no wrong! But because I have read the other books previously and had the very little background information, I have the opinion that Hawthorne is a "good ol' boy." Or at least that's what he wants Anthony to believe... And because we read the novel through Anthony's eyes that is what the reader is suggested to believe as well.

I was surprised at the end. But I just wasn't into it. I'm not sure if it was because of the mood I was in today or if it was because the book was lacking something... special...

I didn’t love this one as much as the first two, but I’m never going to turn down a Hawthorne/Horowitz murder mystery!
