one of the best books i’ve read. the planning >>>. i was shocked and then shocked again.

You should be 3.75 but you got me out of a slump. So I’ll give you alittle extra.  But the ending was rushed and sloppy

My second Michaelides read and I think I have a new favorite author! The way he incorporates Greek mythology and tragedy into novels that keep you hooked is incredible.

A really interesting read. I truly only chose this because it was the most accessible audiobook that I had at the time and so I feel no sense that this was a waste of time. I found the main character interesting and the obvious usage of psychology logic in a thriller as pretty well done. The pacing was also great and I was invested in the events of the story pretty consistently.

However, I agree with many reviews that struggle with the characterization of men, especially violent men throughout the book. I felt uncomfortable about all of the men in the book except the one that ended up being the main antagonist. It seemed like a cheap way to achieve a plot twist and really out of left field. I was appalled by the ending and didn’t find it satisfying whatsoever. Wild read.

As far as thrillers go, this was quite a fun and well done one. It was in no way groundbreaking, but I did enjoy it as a pallet cleaner.

I really enjoyed the Greek mythological elements of this as well as the dark academia setting, both of which added some extra depth to this tale. The twist was a little goofy but overall unexpected and fun, although I do think the author could have used secondary characters a bit more to add suspense.

Overall, it was fine; largely well-executed, engaging if not life-changing prose, and a reasonably entertaining plot. I’d recommend it for thriller beginners like me - more avid fans on the genre may be a little bored by it.
