This was frustrating. The plot was good but the ending was rushed and anti climatic.
i stopped reading it for a time around the end of november and i picked it back up and sped through it. i genuinely enjoyed the writing but i felt that the twist at the end was pretty underwhelming, especially compared to the silent patients ending.
i would give it probably a 7/10, because i enjoyed the writing and especially enjoyed the greek tragedy references, considering i just learned about all that in english. but in the end i thought there were too many red herrings and that fred was a lifeless character that i suspected from the beginning. kinda disappointed in men after reading this because why are they all sexual predators to little girls
this entire time i’m picturing edward fosca looking like hozier and i will take NO objections

Das Buch hätte ruhig ein paar Kapitel länger sein können, dem Ende mehr Zeit geben, den Lesenden mehr Zeit geben, die Wahrheit zu verarbeiten und die komplexen Täter-Opfer Stricke, die Grauzonen, die das Buch prägen, aufzudröseln.

alex michaelides write mentally ill characters well nd dont demonise them constantly challenge (impossible) if i could give this less than 1 star, trust me i would. -300000 stars this was god awful. at least it represented the british mental health services well, it really portrayed them as fucking useless but thinking theyre god-sends. alex if we ever meet in real life im giving you a 30 second headstart to start running
