I just could not force myself through these last 90 pages. So boring. Ugh!

MY HEART! I loved this so much! I am a huge classical music fan. I loved that this followed teens in the classical music world. It was a cute romance but it also tackled racism in the classical world and a lot of other deeper topics. The ending was a bit rushed and everything was resolved very fast. The ending was open-ended, I don't know if Ruby found her passion at all. The whole book was about Ruby finding her passion outside of music yet it ends in a rom-com kiss scene and we still don't know what she ends up pursuing. Besides that this was a solid ya contemporary romance, my classical loving heart was so happy reading this.

Night Music was such a lovely and heartfelt contemporary set in the world of classical music, with one of my favorite YA couples I've had the pleasure of reading recently.

The arts? Check. New York City? Check. Cute and talented love interest? CHECK.

This book has so many positives going for it-from the girl who is trying to figure out her future because she's basically the outcast in her super-talented family, to the boy who is more than the stereotypes typical of his demographic and is fighting for people to see who he really is, to the perfect setting of New York City. I loved the characters' individual development, the development of their friendship, and of course, the romance. Definitely a great book to have on shelves in high school libraries.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with an ARC.

I think my biggest problem with this book was that it felt too long like it kept going on when the story could have been contained in a lot less.

3.5 stars, maybe? A+ diversity and A+ sex positivity, which are both things I value in a good YA. But also it had so much angst and it felt really long. I don't feel like Ruby ever completed the journey of self-discovery she was on and that was really disappointing. Over all it was really cute and swoony, but not my favorite of JMT.

This was a cute read!

Summer in NYC was very much its own character here, which I enjoyed. I wanted to hear this book; the description of music was gorgeous. Like, Oscar's symphony at the end, damn. I wanted to hear it so badly and I practically could.

Throne is a great author, but like with [b:The Wrong Side of Right|17235448|The Wrong Side of Right|Jenn Marie Thorne|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1402694775s/17235448.jpg|23753831], there were times here and there when I just wasn't so into it and I couldn't always pinpoint why.

Ruby was relatively likable, and I appreciated that she wasn't musically talented and couldn't just wake up one day and become capable. Really, some people aren't musically able. I am one of those people. So I liked that more realistic take on things, especially juxtaposed with Oscar's musical genius. Speaking of, Oscar was tons of fun! He was charismatic and full of life and a really excellent character. I thought the discussions on race and the way the media portrayed Oscar was very interesting.

I'll definitely read more by Thorne because her books are entertaining and more than surface level, and perhaps I'll connect with one more strongly in the future than I did with the first two.
