First PKD. Some of it ages very poorly! But the Dangerfield stuff is really great.
Weird in a way that didn't fully come together for me. Still an enjoyable read though

I don't enjoy dystopian novels, but I found this one interesting. I don't believe it will stick with me, and I doubt I'll recommend it to others. However, I enjoyed how the author intermingled several fully-fleshed-out narratives into one story.
didn't think it was gonna get much weirder than the title and then, uh, spoiler alert: it gets much, much weirder.
This is the book I read in 2 days while camping, in a mad haze. pancelor got me into this book podcast called Shelved by Genre where they read various genre books then talk about it (it's very cool and they are very good, you should check it out!). This was on the docket for their post apocalyptic picks, so I got it from the library for him to read. We went camping and he brought it along, then finished it faster than expected. He needed something else to read, so he took my kindle leaving me with no choice but to read this book.
I've never read any Philip K. Dick before. I didn't know what to expect. I was really slapped in the face with everything that was happening. It's so wacky... in a way that was so charming? There was like no plot happening for so long and then all of a sudden so many things started to happen.
Suddenly we have this radio DJ god that everyone listens to flying in orbit, but he's dying. There's a little girl Edie with a sentient twin brother Bill stuck inside of her. Bluthgeld or Mr. Tree who may or may not be able to set off atomic bombs with his mind. Suddenly, Edie and Bill decide that they ought to transfer Bill into a different body so he can be free. I guess this is actually a thing that works! He then is able to fully free himself from her body, and is now a little wizened homonculous (my god [the cover featuring Bill](https://bear-images.sfo2.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/tallywinkle/g9c9xfbsepf11-2906346857.webp) might be one of my favourite things ever??) rolling around the world. He's then eaten by an owl, then spit up, then takes over the body of Hoppy, the local handyman, thus killing him because this little fetus thing can only live like 2 hours outside the body. And then we just end with a "wow daily life has resumed in the city". whiplash?? what?? insane plot (complementary). there is just so much ??
so yeah I loved it LOL. It was so bizarre and absurd in a way that really landed for me. I think my enjoyment was greater listening to the podcast discussion about it and hearing their nuances/exploration of different pieces of the book.

I can’t get enough of PKD’s writing style. For me he’s one author that always delivers. Not much happens in this book, but the characters and their interactions with one another fascinated me.
