I thought this would be an easy introduction into Russian literature. I was a bit put off by the brief description I read: "It tells the love story between a 21-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy." Eww... But, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did.

This story. Oh my goodness. There are so many things I could say, so many points I could make, but I feel that the only way to even come close to truly summarizing my feelings for First Love is to quote it itself,
"On going up to bed, I pirouetted round three times on one foot, I don't know why, greased my hair, lay down and spent the whole night dead to the world. Just before morning I awoke for an instant, raised my head, looked around me with excitement—and went back to sleep."
Only complaint is that the word "literally" was used nine times in fifty-nine pages which probably isn't a big deal but it always is to me. Still five stars, though.

Normally I claim Russian literature as my favorite genre. I fondly remember Father and Sons.
Have I changed? Is it my mood, my present life struggles, or did I really find this book really ridiculous? Filled with insuperable characters and actions that I do not agree with. Not even close to 1 full star.

Absolutely fantastic. The translation here is incredible and the story is succinct, rising and full of depth.
