但是还是一本写初恋的好书，第一次看到了俄国小说和法国小说的共同之处（aka普鲁斯特的《追忆》）。
可是我只是默坐，凝视，倾听——全身充满了一种莫名的感觉，这种感觉里包含着一切：忧伤、欢乐、未来的预感、欲望和对生活的恐惧。可是那个时候，我对于这个一点也不懂，我也不能把这一切在我心里徘徊的东西叫出一个名目，我倒不如用一个名字——齐娜伊达的名字来叫它们。
它成为一种甜蜜的痛苦渗透我的全身，最后它爆发为大欢大乐的狂跳和狂叫。
我心灵里所有的花朵一下子全给摘下来，丢在我身边，散在各处，让人践踏了。

The storyline, complexity of the characters, and whimsically eccentric situations they find themselves in in the beginning of the novel is a beautifully stark contrast to the somber and melancholy end of the story. It was very refreshing. My only beef with this book is this particular translation. The chosen structure of sentences, grammatically, pulled me out of the book in a very discombobulated way.

a 19th-century russian classic about a young man who's head over heels with the new girl in town. i love how the prose flows so smoothly and so delicately. turgenev perfectly captured the naivety of young love— the innocence, bliss, and foolishness of your actions when you're in love. however, i can't help but notice how zinaida, the first love in question, was written—like a caricature of young women in that era. you just know that this piece is written by a man in a male gazy way. it's an okay read and i honestly don't know what to feel with that ending
