I love Sarah Addison Allison books and ending the year with “Other Birds” is like coming home. The family we create is so powerful and I loved this story of friendship and love that ties us together.

I loved the mystery and magic of this book--it was just enough of each to make for an enchanting read.
I also love stories about friendship, and these friendships were wonderful.

I loved this delightful magical realism novel about Zoey, a young women who finds her true family among the eclectic people that live on Mallow Island. Sarah Addison Allen has a gift for getting readers wrapped up in her story world and unique characters—and Other Birds is one of her best yet! You probably guessed that I like birds, so the cover immediately drew me in and I was not disappointed!
Synopsis: When Zoey comes to claim her deceased mother’s apartment at the Dellawisp, named after the magical turquoise birds in the courtyard, she meets her quirky and secretive neighbors, including a young woman with a past, two estranged middle-aged sisters, and a lonely chef, and three ghosts. The sudden death of one of Zoey’s new neighbors sets off a search that leads to the island’s famous author and to a long-estranged relative of the sisters. Each of these “other birds” has a story, and by the end their stories have become better by knowing each other and Zoey.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading Allen’s next novel.

A beautifully written story of letting go of the people we've lost and embracing found family.
