We are introduced to Ned Nickerson in this book - finally! You can tell #7 was written by someone else. (Lots more sexism.

This book is pretty boring. There's only one explosion and that's right at the beginning, no one gets kidnapped, there's no body-switching, no one goes anywhere near the water... what's going on, writers? I kind of like it!

I think this is my favorite of the Nancy Drew books I've reread this year. I quite liked how the mystery played out, and wasn't quite sure how things would shake out for the majority of the book - which is saying something, considering these are written for children and the mystery is usually fairly obvious. We were also finally introduced to Ned Nickerson, who of course becomes Nancy's boyfriend. I'm really enjoying my reread of this series, and while there are problematic elements (at one point, Nancy says she'd feel more comfortable if they "had a man along" even though she's plenty capable of handling herself) throughout the series, I still find them an enjoyable romp from my childhood.

I considered giving up on Nancy after this one--it introduces Ned, but other than that, honestly feels like a repeat of one of the previous books with only the tiniest of changes. Even the stakes didn't seem perilously high in this one (although maybe they should have). I considered giving up on Nancy all together, but I'm curious about #9 so I guess I'll re-evaluate after that one.
