I originally grabbed this on the library on a whim- it was sitting on a “recommended by a librarian” shelf and librarians know their books. It then sat on my nightstand sort weeks, getting passed over by other “more serious” books. I needed a quick palette cleanser sort of book so ended up grabbing it to read before I went to bed last night. I read the first four pages before falling asleep but woke up immediately wanting to read more. It was catchy, intriguing, written well and it did all my fave things - short chapters, different narrators, mysterious, and exciting to read. I couldn’t put it down all day and was reading it while cooking dinner and while watching my kids run around outside. It’s not the most serious plot but it’s fun and takes your mind off anything else going on - which is one of the best parts about reading.
I’d give it a 5 in terms of “good quick reads”.

A riveting tale about the toxic relationship between two couples after a night of sexual shenanigans, and the manipulative teenager with an explosive secret at the center of it all.

Looking for a book with super toxic characters, friendships and secrets? Look no further than Robyn Harding's THE SWAP! Full of unlikable characters, obsession and explosive secrets, I loved every minute of this book.
The relationships (or lack there of) between Low, Jamie and Freya were absolute train wrecks - and just like the saying goes, I couldn't look away. This is my second book by Harding and I will FOR SURE be reading the rest of her back list!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my ARC! THE SWAP is out now.

I received an advanced reader copy of The Swap from Gallery Books via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion.
The Swap by Robyn Harding is a story about the pull of a toxic friendship. Low is an awkward teen with no friends- her demeanor and home life make her a social outcast. Freya has been shunned by her social media followers and is trying to figure out how she fits into her new life. Low starts taking pottery lessons from Freya and is instantly enraptured by her. Both are hard up for friends and quickly take a liking to each other.
Jamie and her husband, Brian, have recently moved to town and are hoping this slower pace of life will help Jamie become pregnant. Jamie owns a store that sells Freya’s pottery, soon Jamie, Freya and their husbands become friendly. One rambunctious night will change the marriage of both couples leaving everyone at odds. Recently spurned Low will stop at nothing to get her friendship with Freya back and soon finds herself becomes the middle-man between Freya and Jamie.
This book just didn’t do it for me- the pace seemed to slow down in the second half of the book, but it could have been that I just wasn’t invested in any of the characters. The Swap is available today, Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

I really enjoy Robyn Harding's writing style. Her books are always hard to put down, and I love that she's not afraid to tackle taboo situations. That being said, this book fell flat for me. I had a very hard time connecting with any of the characters, as I found them all to be irritating. There also seemed to be too many story lines, so the ending felt crazy and disjointed. I have better hopes for her next book.
Robyn Harding has again provided the goods with another fantastic thriller.
The Swap follows two couples and Low Morrison a teenage girl who becomes obsessed with the beautiful but manipulative Freya.
As the title of the book suggests the story involves a couple swap that creates lasting drama throughout the book.
If you’ve read Robyn Harding before you know her books aren’t comprised of gimmicky twists, instead her novels are more of a slow burn well plotted stories with information and secrets being revealed over the course of the book.
The Swap is probably my favourite of the three Robyn Harding books I’ve read, it was engaging and dark and I flew through the pages watching the obsession and manipulation unfold.

The Swap tells the story of Low, Jamie and Freya, three different women with very different lives, and how they intersect. After a night of partying, two best friends decide to swap partners for the night. What they thought would be a night of fun ends up resulting in a life-altering secret.
This was a quick read although I do feel like it ended up being more of a domestic thriller than I expected, and as such the story dragged on a bit before the action began.
I also found the structure of the story a bit distracting, as it jumps between several different characters for the narration. Because the main story is focused on Low & Jamie, I think it would read better from their perspective only instead of including their husbands narration which I didn't feel added to the story. We didn't get narration from Freya at all, however I think it might have been interesting to see things from her perspective.
Overall I was satisfied with the ending (definitely not what I expected coming into it!) and look forward to reading more of Harding's books after enjoying The Party and Her Pretty Face.
*Thanks to NetGalley & Simon and Schuster Canada for the chance to read an advanced copy!*

The Swap is all about a strange, obsessively & expectantly sinister friendship between three women. Low is a gangly odd teenager with an interesting family dynamic; Jamie has just moved to the island with her husband after experiencing hardship with adoption; Freya is an insta-influencer with an ex-pro hockey player husband. Both Jamie and Low are completely obsessed with Freya and are in an endless competition to be her favourite. Naturally, when Freya suggests that her and Jamie swap partners Jamie is reluctantly on board – she really wants to impress her new friend aided of course with the help of some magic mushrooms. And as you can guess this swap results in mess, mayhem and monsters…
Harding is one of my favourite thriller writers and this has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2020 – it did not disappoint! I couldn’t put down this book and I couldn’t believe the amount of manipulation taking place! This book has everything: drama, obsession, stalking and my personal favourite…hippies! This book is told in multiple perspectives but follows a chronological timeline – there is always an elusion to something sinister about to unfold which really kept handing off the edge of my seat! I love this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a captivating, twisted thriller.

This was bad. Just another book about a woman wanting a baby so bad that she will do anything to get one. This trope is the absolute worst.
