Wow what a story!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading between the three main protagonists and their intertwining lives and the toxicity in each of their relationships. Firstly you have 17 year old Low, a teenager immersed in a polyamorous family with no friends, Freya, the new pottery teacher whose strikingly beautiful and married and an ex-hockey player, and Jamie, an owner of a small boutique store on the island they all live on.

There were twists and turns, ups and downs and I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride reading this! I couldn't put it down, and found myself up until 3am just to finish it.

I felt that the last 50 pages packs a punch, and as I was nearing the end I was confused as to how it would all end as there didn't seem like many pages left to summarise and end the book, however I felt that it was tied up nicely. I would've preferred that the ending be strung out for a few more pages as I felt it was very rushed in the end, but overall an incredible read that kept me up and wanting more!

Really interesting book! Not a thriller, but just as engrossing. Although all the main characters were unlikable, I felt that I had to keep reading to find out what was happening.

The Swap was my first Robyn Harding book and I was honestly amazed by the writing and the pace of the novel. This is a story of deceit, manipulation, debauchery and resentment between two couples and an outlier teenager.

Freya & Max - popular, until a freak accident destroyed Max’s Hockey career and forced them to move to an island in the middle of nowhere.

Jamie & Brian - need a change in environment after there hopes of adopting a child was shattered by a scam and Brian needed to calm his mind so that he can work on his book deal.

Low - an abnormal teenager who finds hard to make friends, for which she blames on her polyamorous family.

Freya and Low click when Low takes Freya’s pottery class, and all is well until Jamie comes along and Low is left alone again. Low feels betrayed by Freya and deliberately wants to split them up, because Low has this unexplainable attraction towards Freya. One night after an innocent Magic mushroom party, the couples swap their partners which paves a way for Low to create a wedge between them.

This may sound like a normal rural setting story, but this a complex story of backstabbing, manipulations and what an innocent magic mushroom night can do!! This is definitely not a unique story, but it kept my attention and even though I guessed the ending, I didn’t stop reading. Its that good!

The characters were well suit the story. I hated Freya from the beginning I could see right through her shiny beautiful facade. I felt sad for Jaime and Low because they felt the need to impress Freya!! Why though?! Its justified that Jaime and Low had Freya as their only friend in the whole Hawking Island, but why didn’t they realise Freya was a b***h sooner?! I never understood that..

I felt that the author should have added more backgrounds to the husbands and I felt it weird to not mention any small town talks about these people. Small towns love their gossips and they love to talk.. if that part were included, this would’ve been a 5⭐️ read. The ending although was a but predictable had a small twist which actually made me feel bad for the husbands.

Thank you Netgalley, Robyn Harding and Gallery for the ARC. This review is my own and not influenced in anyway!

This book was a quick read... definitely a guilty pleasure... I was never bored, however it was a bit juvenile and there was a lot of eye rolling on my part! Also it’s hard to truly enjoy a book with absolutely NO redeeming characters! It was just OK.
medium-paced
adventurous mysterious fast-paced

I really loved the first 90% of this. I read it in ONE DAY. I felt like the ending was quickly wrapped up and really missed the mark, but overall the story was so captivating.

3.5⭐️
I liked this one and found it to be a quick read. My main issue was that I had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters, so I did not feel invested in the story. I originally liked Low’s character, but then she became creepier and I no longer saw her as the protagonist. I found the ending to be kind of anti climatic.
Thank you Netgalley for the copy in exchange for for an honest review!
