I don't understand why anybody liked Freya, but I definitely understand why nobody liked Low.
This is a crazy train of a ride and I was all in for it!
Two couples and a lonely, awkward teenager are involved in this toxic mess. Low is a high school senior when she sees beautiful Freya at her school offering pottery classes. Low was instantly interested in her and soon has an almost obsessive fascination with Freya. Things are going well for Low and her friendship with Freya until the summer when Jamie and her husband, Brian, enter the picture.
Jamie and Brian become friends with Freya and her husband, Max. Low doesn't like this budding relationship and soon becomes jealous of it and being tossed aside by Freya. After one night involving some magic mushrooms, Jamie and Freya swap partners for the night and the events that follow are interesting (to say the least)!
I really enjoy this author's writing. I was intrigued from the first page when all I was reading about was Low. I loved getting the other POVs thrown in there from Brian and Max. (and Jamie's, too.) I even felt bad for Max in more ways than one. The premise for this story is so original and I was so happy that I had no idea how it was going to end. I was completely surprised by it.

The whole mess seemed unfathomable. How had one night of fun and debauchery upended our lives?
To put it lightly The Swap was stress inducing. I’m pretty sure I woke my husband up tapping my foot in bed while reading this book. Reading about Low, Freya, Max, Jamie, and Brian put me through the ringer. From the cover you think that this story is about a couple swap. From the blurb you assume it’s about a swap gone wrong and the imposing teenager who sees it all happen, but that’s simplifying this book to its most base form. The Swap explores how all of these people can move around and be affected by one person. How one person can puppet master an entire cast of characters without a single one of them being aware of what’s going down. It was intriguing and interesting seeing how it all plays out. Was I stressed out until the very last page? Yes. Were some things extremely obvious to the reader? Yes. BUT... it was still a ride seeing characters realize things over the course of the book.
Such a good thrilling read, and I definitely plan to check out more of this authors work.

The characters can be really annoying yet everything works out with the overall plot. Made for a more infuriating read when I listened to the audiobook.

SEP- The Swap, by Robyn Harding had some great reviews but for me it didn't live up to the hype. A psychological thriller that didn't really thrill but was a very easy read. The characters were all two-dimensional, and the story was told from multiple POV making it feel clumsy and not allowing for a connection with the characters. You weren't really rooting for anyone, and I always find it harder to enjoy a book if I don't like any of the characters.
This is the book equivalent of a trashy day time soap opera for me, so if your wanting a mind numbing escapism without feeling too invested in the outcome, this could be the book for you. I may be being a bit critical as I read it off the back of a 5 star read. But I'm giving this one ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)

I love Robyn Harding's characters. All of them are terrible in the best way possible. Couldn't help but compare this to The Arrangement, which i liked a bit more. Our main character was a bit too similar to Nat, so at times I felt like I was just reading The Arrangement again. But great book overall. I would have given it a 4 if I had not read The Arrangement before this.

Was initially going to give this 3/5 since a few of the plot twists were predictable but the ending redeemed itself and the manipulation between the characters was next level.
Slam dunk! Nice short chapters with perspectives from each character. Desperation and loneliness are the central feelings and what happens when you go to extreme measures to make those feelings go away. Interested to read more by her.
