Fans of documentary style dramas will appreciate the confessional style and pacing. TJR does a masterful job creating an alternate pop culture where none of the characters are real but they all *could* be real. The twist toward the end was nice but it felt a little forced and didn’t really give the reader time to fully grapple with what it meant. It was surprise for the sake of surprise and didn’t really change much about the story.  Even so, it was a beautiful yet fun story about complicated people and my only regret is that I can’t on a Wikipedia deep dive about all of them.

When I read the physical copy, it was way too confusing. However, this version of the book makes more sense. As much as I liked listening to it, it's not a novel I relate to, nor a novel that had a BIG BANG in my life. It's just okay. I can understand the hype for those who like retro, but the story is simple. It's a type of story you hear about repeatedly, something that does happen in reality. You hear these kinds of stories about rock bands back in the 70s. Reid paints the time and setting perfectly. It's just not my kind of book since I normally don't read books like this.

i loved this book with my whole heart. i read it in 2 days and had to force myself to put it down. TJR is a magnificent writer. the characters were so complex and the story line was so well thought out. i wish it could’ve been longer to get more details of little parts of the story but even being 360 pages it was fantastic. i love the rockstar storyline, it was so interesting to have a mix of drama but also what it’s like to actually write an album and live in a studio. i think the author captured the writing and recording process really well for not being a musician. she was able to interweave the characters and the different plots so well with the interview format, the same format made for a quick and easy read. oh how much i loved this book and wish i could read it over again.
