This is the first Karen Rose book that I truly dislike. I got to page 330 and I just couldn't finish it, I ended up skim reading the rest. I just could not get myself to care about the characters. I didn't even like them.

I am so glad that I stumbled upon this author and that she has SO MANY BOOKS!! I listened to the audiobook of this title and it was really long, but really good. At 28.5 hours, it took a bit of time to go through with only listening roughly 2 hours per work day on my commute to and from work. One word of caution, the narrator gets really soft spoken for certain characters and/or moments and at times I missed what was even said because she would get so quiet with a word here or there.

This is book 1 in the Cincinnati series and I promise you, you will fall in love with Dr. Faith Corcoran and Agent Deacon Novak.

Faith is trying to escape a stalker who has been making attempts on her life for years. Finally, out of places to run to, she goes home... where it all started.

There are so many twists and turns and dead bodies in this book, honestly started losing count of how many bodies were discovered.

Of course, there is a lot of romance!

Utterly breathtaking. Throughout the book, I was constantly changing my mind about who the bad guy was.
Totally worth more than 5 stars.

A real page turner couldn't put it down.

Very...very long. I did enjoy it though. I'm looking forward to checking out other books by this author.

This is the first book in Karen Rose's Cincinnati series. It starts off really strongly with the main character, psychologist Faith Corcoran, returning to her grandmother's deserted house which she has inherited, except the house isn't that deserted. A serial killer is using it as a place to torture and keep his victims.
Closer Than You Think is a very long book, and as the plot progresses it becomes rather complex because of the multitude of persons which are being introduced and which become involved in this chase for a serial killer. I felt I needed a family tree to keep track of all the uncles, cousins, stepchildren etc, etc.
Apart from that, this is a sound romantic suspense story with strong and likable main characters and really interesting side characters, just slightly too many of them.
I listened to the audio version narrated by Susie James, which appears to be the British/European version while the US version is narrated by Hillary Huber. I would have liked a bit more differentiation between the various voices but other than that the narration was good.
I really enjoyed the story and although it was 23 hours of listening, it never became dull. There was a good mix of suspense and romance, and the story had enough twists to keep you guessing till the end. Now going to start book 2, [b:Alone In the Dark|24899046|Alone In the Dark (Cincinnati, #2; Romantic Suspense, #17)|Karen Rose|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1433273615s/24899046.jpg|44548927], before I forget all the intricate family relationships, but this time, listening to Hillary Huber.

I didn't realise it was supposed to be a romance novel, I probably wouldn't have read it had I known. I'm glad I did though. Putting aside the falling in love straight away and inappropriateness
sex when there are increasing numbers of dead bodies under your floor and someone is after you? Really?!
the rest of it was so good.
