I don't give five stars to many books, but if you want a sweet story, this is a lovely book. I've enjoyed this whole series and always thought Ave and I were cut from the same cloth. I've enjoyed her journey.
I picked up this book in anticipation of the movie-version, which is currently being filmed by a few of my favorite actresses. The setting was so fun and the supporting characters, too. There were several points throughout the book that I found myself "mystified" at the lead characters actions and thoughts, and while the author eventually explains the motives behind them, it still left me a little wanting. All of that said, I'm still interested in seeing the movie and in picking up the next book in the series...
Big Stone Gap was a very good read. I loved the quirky characters of this book...it reminded me of Fannie Flag's novels (which I liked as well). I can't wait to read the next book.
this started out very slowly for me. by the end, i was enjoying reading it, but i don't think i'll continue with the series. i loved her other books and was bummed that this one wasn't as good.
I liked this story, the writing and most of the characters - except the main character. She drove me bat shit crazy! Also, the chemistry of Ave Maria and Jac Mac just wasn't there on the page for me through most of the book. I realize the writer thought she put it there, but Ave was such a wreck and her internal dialogue of anxiety was so distracting I couldn't feel the relationship.
I liked some of the other characters and the overall story was good and it moved along, but damn - that girl just needed to turn her mind off.

I started this yesterday - I've met Adriana once, with my mother, and immediately knew I'd love her writing after listening to her speak. This is my mother's favorite series, and I figured it was about time to start it. It is absolutely stunning, and paints a beautiful picture of Big Stone Gap so far. Bonus points for an audiobook read by the author!
An engaging book. the style of Trigiani's writing was different than the Shoemaker's Wife or Lucia, Lucia. I found the main character confusing in her indecisiveness. I then watched the movie and thought it made a better screenplay.
I absolutely loved this book!! I connected to each character in a different way. Growing up in a small town I could relate to many of the elements of the story. Would recommend this read to anyone looking for a heartwarming tale.
