“A warrior believes in an end she can’t see and fights for it. A warrior never gives up. A warrior fights for those weaker than herself. It sounds like motherhood to me.”

The Four Winds is a compelling family saga moving through the relentless, deadly dust storms of the 1930s in the Great Plains, which ravages the home and farm of Elsa and her family in Texas, into their journey west to California during the Great Depression in hopes of finally attaining the “American Dream.”

It’s an unforgettable read filled with parallel themes of identity, migration, family, mother/daughter relationships, hope, and survival across three generations.

True grit and heartache. Step back in time for the Great Depression during the dust bowl era. Hard times and the greed of others.

Hannah has a wonderful way of writing historical fiction, and I’m here for it!

Apparently you couldn’t stop loving some people, or needing their love, even when you knew better. -p.90

The children’s lives would never be the same after today. Their options of everything would change, but especially their opinions of themselves… -p. 117

“ I don’t know if I want her to settle down, Rose. I’m in awe of her fire. Even if I’m the one who gets burned.” -p. 136

A beautiful recognition of love is on page 190 💗

“No,” she said at last. “I don’t know the people who lived here…and they didn’t know me.” -p. 198

A warrior believes in an end she can’t see and fight for it. A warrior never gives up. A warrior fights for those weaker than herself. It sounds like motherhood to me. -p. 426

“The world can be changed by a handful of courageous people. …” -p. 427

I loved it. One again, with Kristin Hanna, we discover a part of history through the eyes of women.
