Happy ending, but overall, this one had a very melancholic air to it, and it didn’t leave me with the good feels. Also, the angel barely played a part in the story.

4 Historical Hearts - Team Review with Chelsea

Another win for this holiday series!

Prepare yourself for some heartache though…

Roger and Jack and have been boyhood friends for forever and at the cusp of adulthood, a shared kiss that could’ve possibly been the start of something never comes to full fruition as the world is soon thrown into war. Six years later and these two young men have seen and done much, suffered and grieved, and missed each other every day, surviving only through the hope of seeing one another again. Was that shared kiss all it was? A fleeting thing between friends or the start of something more?

This blends the best of friends who become lovers, set in a time where such was not accepted or condoned. Melancholy and full of longing, Roger and Jack are expected to carry on and move on, but neither can let that one memory go despite time, distance, and everyone else in their lives doing their damndest to keep them apart.

However, life’s too short and these two are about to lose the best thing, the only thing they want. They deserve happiness and they grab it for themselves regardless of the possible consequences.

A bittersweet but triumphant win for Roger and Jack, their love definitely bringing all the romantic contentment and feel good warmth to the heart!

Thank you to the author/publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review

I read the first one in this series and loved it, so had to give this one a try. This one is set right after WW2 finish3d in 1945, but the prolouge is set 6 years eairler. You see the connection between Jack and Roger straight away, you just want them to find their way to be together. The pair is reunited after the war and both have grown so much. War has taken it's toll on both men and we get to see how hard it was for both. They did grown while away at war and both have a brief relationship with a man. You see that what other expect if them is dragging them down and how hard it is to live your true self then. Jack was my favourite out of the to and I just wanted to give him a big hug. I like how the angel came into this and in such a sweet way. It really gave Roger hope and comfort during the war. It is still working it's magic in bringing true love to those who need it. The ending was really sweet and I liked how they resolved to make it happen. Loved the epilogue, so glad it was set 5 years in the future. This book shows us how time have really changed and I'm so happy for it. I wish this book could of been longer and can't wait to see what magic the angel will grant next!

A NOVELLA from Witt? This is an older title, but I wish she would trim her more recent releases down to a more reasonable length. This was a sweet post-WWII tale with a bit of angst, but nothing too over the top

This was well written and I really enjoyed it. I think with a longer page count would have helped make it a more well rounded story, but for a novella it was pretty good. It was sweet, just needed more emotions/character development.

The angel and her magic have made it to WWII and a soldier's rucksack. Most of the story takes place just after the war and revolves around childhood friends, Roger and Jack. With only the one heated kiss before Jack leaves for college, the pair promise to see each other at Christmas. Of course, the war changes that, and it's six years before these two see each other again. The author does an impressive job with the balance between the whimsy and magic of the angel and the reality of post war life for a soldier while also giving us the angst of a forbidden romance. Both Jack and Roger are likable characters and their feelings for each other do come through loud and clear. This is a novella, so things wrap up quickly, but it still manages to be a well-rounded romance, and the angel adds the perfect touch of Christmas magic.

Can't tell the leads apart

Sweet little story in an amazing series. But this particular story is weaker than the others in the series as the two main characters are indistinguishable from one another.

Not bad, but nothing special. Jack and Roger are interchangeable—so much so that even the author can't always seem to tell them apart and mixes up their names several times—with nothing about their thoughts, feelings, mannerisms, etc. to differentiate them. I suspect the story would've worked better if it had stayed in one PoV instead of alternating.
