i think this is an amazingly powerful story, more so for the writer's ability to relay it in so few pages! halfway through, I thought, "I need to read this again, because I'm sure I'm missing something".

I chose it because it sounded a bit like Miss Peregrine, but you never quite get to the root of the paranormal worlds. What you get is a powerful look into people's longings and inherent qualities, and how they affect others. Simply amazing, and great ending

This was such an interesting beginning into this world...or is that worlds? I enjoyed the characters and cannot wait to read more of certain worlds. My complaint would be that it was too short but how can I complain about that when I went into the story knowing that it's a novella? Overall it was a great introduction and I can't wait to read more from McGuire. Recommended.

Amazing premise (school for children returned from magical worlds, each somehow perfect for them),  mediocre execution (as a murder mystery). The mystery mainly gets in the way of exploring the children’s post magical journeys.

MY BRAIN IS SHOOK.

Unique concept. I was entertained but ultimately wanted more. I struggle with novellas for this reason. They never quite feel complete.

Can someone please explain to me how such a short book just made me feel so very satisfied? I wish I was Nancy. Her ability to just put life on pause is actually amazing. This book is so imaginative and it seems like the answer to all the other books I’ve read. The explanation of what Alice feels like after she leaves wonderland.

There are major parts of the plot that are predictable, but the reveal is still satisfying. There is just artistry in the writing. This book also does diversity in a subtle fashion. It doesn’t feel forced, yet still gives proper representation.

Overall, I’d give this 4.5/5 stars. Definitely recommend for everyone.

As someone who grew up getting run through the systems for "managing troubled teens", this book was bizarrely cathartic  and relatable, despite being fantasy. There were lines I related to on a level I was not expecting. The mystery was intriguing and the characters deeply flawed, yet lovable. The pacing was fast in a good engaging way. All around a wonderful read.
