Epic fantasy with really great worldbuilding. I didn't totally follow this series until the last 50-ish pages of the final book when things started to make sense, but I still loved it.

This was, by far, the most ambitious world-building fantasy that I've ever read. Sci-fi/fantasy isn't really my genre, but the Broken Earth trilogy was recommended to me by someone who said she'd never read anything like it. I totally agree. I'm not even sure I understood it all!

As much as I tried I couldn't make myself care about this book. None of the characters are likeable. I don't wish to follow any of them around. And even though this book does a lot to reveal the back story of the world, I also couldn't care less why the earth and the moon and all these things happened. In the end I made it less than half of the way through before just giving up and reading a summary. The summary revealed that I was right, and nothing happened that makes me want to continue on. Sorry, but this series was just not for me.

FINALLY finished this. To the very end, Jemisin captures falling, stumbling into place without it being a gotcha. Fixing the damaged, accepting the irreprable. Castrima on the move, turning to stone, growing up too fast, loving different versions of the same person. The center of the earth.
