Too dark and abusive for me.

The writing is stream of consciousness and extremely odd, but it works if you’re in the right mood.

It was a really interesting idea and I'd be interested in a different series in the future. The writing was almost poetic which was interesting to read, but it did make some things less clear than they should have been.

I honestly didn't have a problem with their diet, I mean they're technically not humans so it didn't really bother me. But the past history  of possible SA by Ridge was a bit much. Sometimes it seemed like it was just their natural attraction luring women, but other remarks really were questionable. I also wish the parts with the "devil" at the end and the shifting concept were clearer for what was happening. Felt a little lost at times reading them.

This book fucked me up, and I'm not confident in my ability to give it the review it deserves but I'm going to try and organise some of my thoughts on it.
The writing is fucking beautiful. The author's ability to write such intense, gripping, all-consuming lust and desperation is overwhelming. It blew me away and not only did I highlight half the book but I had to reread parts of it many times to appreciate the dialogue and descriptions.
The plot is bizarre. It often felt like a fever dream but that doesn't diminish my overall rating of the book. It made me feel EVERYTHING. I don't think I've "what the fuck"'d out loud as much as I did reading this book.
It's raw, gory, explosive and feral. So much blood and sex and more blood. It's equal parts horrific and erotic.
You're just thrown straight into the deep end feeling drunk and high on whatever the fuck is going on. It played out like a movie in my head and felt more like a cinematic experience than a book.
Despite the plot holes and sometimes frustrating events
(CHEATING AT 85%)
I can't see myself rating it anything other than 5 stars for every single emotion it made me feel.

My horror-whore heart fell hard for this one. You gotta be down for some flesh-eating (I'm all over it) with all the horny body-fluid swapping you can imagine (sign me up). But it's the originality that sold me. This is right up there with the queen of erotic horror, R Lee Smith. The writing is absolutely delightful, grabbing all the senses and building a compelling post-WWII world. If you're here for the romance, it's as savage and delicious as you would expect from a family of hungry, territorial wolves. This is a top read for me this year. I highly recommend it to dark romance lovers.

THIS ONE IS SO GOOD!!! SOOO GOOD!!!

For some reason I thought this book was supposed to be really dark but I must have gotten it confused with another because while there are dark instances it’s really not what I was expecting. Or maybe I’m just desensitized.

I haven’t read a shifter romance in a long time and I really enjoyed this one. I liked the authors writing and the way the characters were described.

I loved Ridges character development. He went from wanting to eat the FMC to doing whatever it took to keep her alive.

I couldn’t put this book down I had to know what happened next and how everything ended. I was left with questions which is ultimately why I couldn’t give the book 5 stars.

SPOILERS BELOW

We never found out for sure what the demon/devil thing was. The FMC ended up fucking the MMCs brother (Wright) and said she loved him (and he loved her) but then the brother decided he wanted to travel and while traveling mentions a woman. So it seemed like their declarations of love were pointless. The reverend said him and his brother had been to the Orion and saved people so I thought it was them who actually killed Wrights mate and son but it was never truly explained. Ridge finally remembered what happened after he shifted for the first time and how he found Jess and Wrights son dead in the farmhouse and even says how clean the cut on her throat is (and when he eats people it’s a lot more messy) but this is never mentioned again?? If the fmc really didn’t die then what happened and how did her father end up hanging from a tree? How’d she get that big gash on her head?

END OF SPOILERS

Writing the problems I had down (in the spoilers) makes me question my rating because the plot was kind of a mess. Somehow overall I did enjoy the story. The spice was great!
