the first part of the book was not as good as others imo but the ending was good
This was one of the most tragic and beautiful books I've read! It was probably one of the best finales to a series as well!

definitely a satisfying end to the series! not the kind I would want to read over and over, but satisfying and left me content with he characters. lots of action!
“You were planned, Noah. Engineered.”
Noah practically radiated frustration. “For what?”
“To be the hero,” David said, looking at Noah like he was his greatest disappointment. “To slay the dragon. But you fell in love with it instead.”
4.25/5 stars.
I loved this book, I loved the twists, the revelations, finally getting the answers, I loved Mara and Noah. I loved it all.. but the end felt a bit underwhelming to me in a way. And I feel like there were still stuff that weren't answered but I think those make sense as I assume they'll be addressed in Noah's trilogy.
dark
mysterious
medium-paced
Graphic: Mental illness, Self harm, Violence, Blood, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Animal death, Physical abuse, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Medical content, Death of parent
Minor: Vomit, Pregnancy
this shit is addictive and i’m seriously gonna miss it
3.5 stars.
Loses stars because the last 150 pages was completely messed up.
Why did I have have to suddenly read from Noah's perspective?
Why was there like 20 pages of snippets between Mara and Noah doing it? it only needed like one page… facepalm.
why do I feel like Jude was completely forgotten at the end? same with Mara's parents who'd worried so much about her to begin with??
ugh whatever, I did like this up until the end.
More review later.

This book was more action packed than the last one. In the end I did really like the connections developed between Mara and Noah. I'm a sucker for stories like that, but it bugs me that it took two books (both 500 pages in total) to get to the main part in the third book. At the same time, what I liked was the fact that this book does not end in a war, but focusses on Mara and Noah mainly. It really is a love story. I like that focus. I just hate how long it took to get there.
What I didn't like, was the last 150 pages. It's as though everything had to be overdone in order to give it an epic finale. But really, it could have shorten up. There were some really useless things happening. Like when suddenly Hodkin decides I would find it interesting to suddenly read form Noah's perspective--uh....no I wouldn't. Let's keep it Mara please, after all I just read 1350 or so words from her perspective, why the hell would I want to read from Noah's? Of course, my plea was not answered, and yes, I ended up reading from Noah's perspective. I usually hate this in most books, and it sure didn't change with The Retribution of Mara Dyer.
That was my first hate.
My second, is that sure, feel free to have a sex scene for all I care. Couples who have been together for ages are of course bound to sleep together. But by god....do I have to read twenty pages of single paragraphs depicting both Mara AND Noah's perspective on making love with each other? TOTALLY UNNECESSARY even if I really don't care, it was a flipping waste of twenty pages -.- not happy jan!
And lastly...I severely disliked how key characters throughout the last few books were COMPLETELY forgotten at the end of The Retribution of Mara Dyer. It felt rushed. The end that is. Jude disappeared (kinda like the way Gale is given a half assed story at the end of Mockingjay in the Hunger Games series) and wasn't really thought of, same with Mara's parents, even Mara brother was included in he ending, but her parents...they were so overly concerned with her for the last two books, I really hated the loose end on them, or the brush off they got. It just wasn't fair.
IN all, I did enjoy this series overall, but it is very slow, and while the creepy factor is great, you don't really get the paranormal part until the third book. Then again the whole trilogy is actually Mara's recount of what happened, so it's like she's a really unreliable narrator and generally can't trust everything. Still I did enjoy it. And for 500pages, each book was pretty easy to read. Still, the very end was a bummer. If only it hadn't ended like that, I could have given this book 4 stars for a good ending.
