I cannot for the life of me remember what caused me to put this book on hold but I know that when I started reading it I had totally forgotten anything I had previously known about it. I didn’t realize/remember that it was non fiction, for example. I don’t really have any specific things I did or didn’t like EXCEPT I enjoyed how detailed and sensory based the writing was.

A favorite!

every day is a great day to hate men

3.5 stars. I believe it could have been edited a bit. But it would/could spur a dialogue with women. 3 different perspectives. And I believe most women can relate to some of the feelings, situations, thoughts...

I found this book to be disturbing in its accuracy of reflecting women’s experiences of sexual desire in a patriarchy and completely enthralling in the way it was written. Maggie’s perspective is the most compelling to me, given its complexity and consideration of her POV as a teenage girl grasping at agency and power. I will be thinking about these stories for a while.

I wish there had been a bit more diversity in the stories, which I think could have deepened the reflection on a femme experience under the male gaze, illustrating a variety of experiences in a racial and gender hierarchy rather than primarily a white woman’s. However, I did find each story to be compelling and speak to different truths.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book, but buckle up, there will be some discomfort in this read, especially if you’re looking for a sexy feel-good book about desire.

This was kind of about nothing and also sad. Not sure if I would recommend this to anyone
