Well written but very depressing. Chore to get through. Should have just given up at 20%. Content not the writing was bad.

Everyone I Know is Dying is a searingly honest and unflinching portrait of mental health issues.
Iris seems to have it all. Assured, confident, in control. She's been given the big promotion at work. Then, apparently with no warning, and for no reason, Iris is actually not okay.
It's a heavy read, and very raw, but it does have moments of humour and it addresses issues with a realness and understanding. I think it will be a very relatable story for a lot of women, and parts definitely resonated with me.
The writing is great - focused and astute. It feels very authentic. Iris is not always likeable but is anyone, all of the time? The skill here is despite this, it's hard not to emphasise with her and actually just want to make everything better. It's very much a character driven book, and rather compelling with it.
Perfect for fans of My Year of Rest and Relaxation and those that enjoy literary fiction with an introspective feel.

Probably the most mind numbingly stupid thing I've ever read.

I really didn't like the protagonist and didn't think her actions and characterarch that plausible in that rather short time - it also left out certain aspects of everyday life (which made the entire story not add up, really) and was full of commas-errors (maybe to make it match colloquial language more? Made one stumble about those sentences, though).
At least she sort of ends up going to therapy in the end, but everything that leads to it doesn't seem too plausable, like, it doesn't cover the whole picture but the author didn't know any better how to write that arch.
