This book mainly talks about the difficulties faced by a boy named Simon, who is gay and he wants to come out. For me this book was so emotional. Eventhough I an straight, just by reading Simon's feelings and difficulties I cried. I cried with him.
There were some characters who really got on my nerves.
There is a mystery character named Blue.
This book was a wholesome journey.

I watched the movie back in 2018 as a teen with my parents after I had come out and it hit me with all the right feelings, and after learning it was based on a book I always wanted to read it. Years later as a mid-20s adult finally getting around to reading the book, it still gave me the same feelings I had before and I definitely think the movie lived up to the book. Many plot points and details were different between the two but the themes and heart of the story were persistent in both, and I think it's a testament to the author's writing skills that the narrative voice and dialogue felt realistic to teens I knew but not overly cringey. I remember thinking some of the drama in the movie felt too frustrating or unrealistic, specifically
Leah getting mad at Simon for not coming out to her because she liked him and he thought she liked Nick,
but this wasn't the case in the book and I thought the drama in the story was more realistic and true to classic teenage drama than the movie depicted. Overall this book holds up and is such a sweet and necessary message for closeted and freshly out teens alike.
