Nothing was particularly bad about this, but there wasn't anything that sparked...anything. I don't need to be mesmerized all the time by a book, but it's going to give me something. I usually love a thoughtful, meandering, nothing-really-happens book. But this one was not it. It was simply, okay.

It read kind of like a memoir or a series of vignettes in that I sort of felt like I was just waiting for it to get started for most of the book. It was one of those plodding, contemplative books that I’m glad I read but probably won’t stick out too much in my mind. I’m not sure if this was intentional but it read to me like a book that would be on Barrack Obama’s annual list of favorite books, which made me laugh.
Okay so this is one of those half fiction half memoirs. I wish it would have committed to one or the other. With a memoir I could have understood the rambling and odd detours. With fiction, I want to know why plot points weren’t followed up and things mostly seemed monotone. I listened to the audiobook and the frequent editing and splicing of the audio was a little weird also. Not a bad book but not one I would have chosen to read on my own.
