I don’t even know what to say about this book. It was both awful and amazing. You should not read it, but from the 3rd act conflict to the end of the book I thought it was phenomenal. The beginning is some of the worst content I have ever had the displeasure of enduring and the middle was a case study in why we should all endeavor to deal with our own trauma in a professional setting.

Ok, the first few chapters are rough. Jodie and Cal's teammates suck and Jane's plan is frankly bananas. Not to mention just plain creepy and highly unethical. Her first 2 encounters with Cal are sooo cringy and I judged him for sleeping with her, too!
But holy crap...once they get to North Carolina...this becomes the bonkers rom com OF MY DREAMS. The side characters are great, and the secondary romance plot brings depth to the main romance. Cal and Jane are both unlikeable (She tricked him into fathering her child! He refuses to date anyone other than super sweet girls in their early 20s because he's afraid of aging!) but they're such a perfect match. Their pranks, their fights, all of it.
I'm begging you...read at least through meeting Cal's grandma. Ideally you'll read until they discover each other's big secrets and have a knock-down, drag-out fight in his grandma's lawn, but I don't want to push it.

Anche se avevo trovato pareri contrastanti sulla storia, ero partita con le migliori intenzioni quando ho letto la trama di questo libro, che univa una cervellona scienziata e un belloccio sportivo.
L’idea mi intrigava davvero molto e ovviamente l’ho presa come una lettura leggera, senza fermarmi troppo sulle motivazioni etiche delle premesse: Jane vuole un figlio, a tutti i costi, ma non lo vuole troppo intelligente, perché crede che questo lo condannerebbe ad un’eterna infelicità e solitudine.
Per tale ragione, scegliere un uomo che reputa un idiota gagliardo e attua il suo piano: inganna deliberatamente Cal - per ben due volte - pur di rimanere incinta. E, seppure non voglia niente altro da lui che un po’ di materiale genetico da gestire, si ritrova in un mare di guai, perché niente va come preventivato da lei.
Quel che non mi è piaciuto del libro è che i protagonisti passano metà del tempo in continui battibecchi infantili, fra dispetti e ritorsioni, senza dimostrare un minimo di maturità dei 36 e 34 anni previsti.
Il fantomatico bimbo, che dovrebbe essere il fulcro della storia, è solo una macchietta iniziale e finale. Mi dispiace, ma per buona parte del libro è come se non ci fosse – Jane fa di tutto e di più, anche mentre è incinta, e la cosa mi ha lasciata a dir poco perplessa… come altre scelte dei personaggi, che trovo poco sensate.
La cosa che decisamente me lo ha fatto andare in disgrazia è la mancanza di cura nell’edizione italiana. Ci sono errori nei nomi dei personaggi, nella collocazione temporale (marzo diventa maggio e torna ad essere marzo), nelle parole battute (nessuno si scandalizza per qualche refuso, ma qui è un continuo di errori ripetuti in tutto il libro: le parole sono proprio digitate senza significato, come se il correttore automatico le avesse modificate a piacere… la prima volta che ho letto ‘panda’ invece che ‘pancia’ “Si premette una mano sulla panda”, mi sono messa a ridere. Poi, viste le numerose sviste, m’è passato del tutto l’umorismo).
Il finale, mi dispiace, lo trovo inutile. La decisione definitiva di Cal sul suo ripiego di lavoro non ha nessun senso, a meno che non mi sia sfuggito qualcosa di importante, ma quello che sembra ovvio alla cara nonnina, non lo è affatto. In quale punto si può anche solo lontanamente intuire questa direzione?
Secondo me, questo punto andava trattato diversamente o lasciato ad un finale aperto.
I personaggi di contorno sono abbastanza simpatici, soprattutto Annie (anche se in certi momenti vorresti strozzarla!) e Kevin, che da antipatico antagonista è diventato una buona spalla per i protagonisti… ma, francamente, non è un libro che consiglierei.

No, just.. no... enjoyed book 1, book 2 was meh, this book I wont even try to finish got to the part about babies and stupid (1st or 2nd chapter) and returned it to library, that was the most ridiculous thing I have ever read! Oh well

Libby audio. I’ve been reading this series in order and I have to say this is the weakest one so far. I do not think that I could ever love any character who intentionally has tried to get pregnant without her partner’s knowledge. I just couldn’t get past that. And there just wasn’t good overall character development in this novel. I know the author has it in her because I’ve read her other books which I think did a much better job. It feels like this one was just cranked out to meet her at her editor’s deadline. The narrator, as always, did a good job with these. I can’t imagine if she had to read an novel where there was not a country accent though.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. SEP is a grandmaster in writing romances as they should be. With characters worth investing your emotions on. Gut wrenching at times, filled with mirth & emotions of the feel good variety alongside with heat of the kind that melts you, this is SEP at her best. Decision to revisit this as I ran into a reading funk these last few weeks has been the best decision ever! Thank God for the novels from before which we can rely on to deliver all that we crave and more.

Gut wrenching at times, filled with mirth & emotions of the feel good variety alongside with heat of the kind that melts you, this is SEP at her best. Decision to revisit this as I ran into a reading funk these last few weeks has been the best decision ever! Thank God for the novels from before which we can rely on to deliver all that we crave and more.
