Since I've read Kiss an Angel by the author, I had really high expectations from this book but unfortunately it disappointed me alot. Jane was definitely in the wrong and the hissy fit that she threw when she learned that Cal was indeed smart made me feel so mad. Cal was definitely the victim in this story but his attitude made it so hard for me to sympathize with him. His mom and grandma though were good side characters, I liked them more than Cal & Jane themselves tbh. Even though they became a cute couple, I just could not get over how these two treated each other. Especially Cal's obsession about having young a partner was mentioned so many times that it gave me the ick. I finally started to enjoy the book in the last half but then the story came to an end which was a real bummer. So overall, this book was one big disappointment.

Poor, poor Jane. And poor Cal!

And poor, poor Jane.

This one has a slightly creepy beginning. Jane basically pretends to be a hooker and… basically does what hookers do. When he finds out she's used him to get pregnant, he forces her to marry him and takes her off to his house in Salvation, Texas.

The saddest thing is that they're going to divorce, which means Jane has to act like a class-one bitch around every member of Salvation in order to make them happy when the divorce comes through.

Of course, things never work that way, and Cal and Jane indulge in a great deal of shouting matches (I will never look at Lucky Charms the same way again), slowly realizing they're each other's perfect match.

Meanwhile, Cal's parents are falling apart and getting themselves put back together again. I love their story— Amber Lynn is a strong, confident woman, and she was seriously fantastic.

The end scene, of course, is hilarious. Annie is a breath of air.

And… let's not forget. Scribbling notes about complicated physics terms is always fantastic.

Whoa. Bananas plot but DEFTLY handled by SEP. This is not your standard romance. HEA of course but boy is it a winding twisty Appalachian mountain road to get there. Loved it. *written in 1997 and so of that time at points

Great book but this was tainted for me by the h's actions in using the H. I like my h's to have some basic principals even in a suspend reality romance and I just couldn't overlook it.

What would have been a 4* read was a 2* experience in the end.

DID NOT FINISH: 6%

This premise didn't appeal to me at all. I went into it thinking "1997 - that wasn't that long ago" but yep... we're a lot more into body autonomy now and less into calling people d*kes for owning fine art.

There are some issues I found overall.
Non-con/rape. Ageism. For someone with high IQ, Jane sure is stupid. But I’m being tolerant only because it’s an older book.
I honestly expected more on the pregnancy aspect. I would’ve liked it if the main characters bonded through that. Also I was more interested in Cal’s parents’ story than the main characters’.
Despite all of that I enjoyed some parts.
Can’t decide between 2.5 or 3 stars.
