So this book is completely unrealistic and there are plot lines that are problematic (unsurprising given the book was published 20+ years ago), but if you can overlook that like all of the characters in the book do, then it’s an easy, fluffy read, with some enjoyable supporting characters.

Jane is the best! As a scientist myself, I love Phillips' research into the world of physics! Laughed hysterically at Jane's antics of writing random formulas or thoughts down on any avaliable surface, as I do that too! I really hope to read more about Rosie in the future.

I give it a 3.75.
It's more than mediocre, but not enough to get 4 stars.

I initially had a hard time with Jane tricking Cal into the pregnancy, but it was handled well and not just written off. Loved the chemistry between the main couple.

3.5 “She chose the wrong baby daddy” Stars

First of all, this book totally through me off. In a good way. I absolutely DID NOT expect to like it as much as I did, and well, it completely took me by surprise. It was my first Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ book, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Nobody’s Baby but Mine is about a 34 years old woman named Jane who desperately wants a baby. Jane is what could be called a genius. She’s an incredible physicist trying to solve the Theory of Everything. She grew up with a father that didn’t know what to do with a child prodigy, and therefore, Jane has always felt like she was a complete freak. Often teased by the other kids at school when she was younger, Jane will do anything she possibly can to make sure her unborn child will NOT be a genius. Best way to achieve that? Find a baby daddy who’s as intelligent as a lantern post. When Jane sees Cal Bommer, the famous NFL quarterback, on tv she knows he would be the perfect baby daddy. He doesn’t look very intelligent, makes numerous grammar mistakes, and acts like the only thing he knows how to do is throw a football. When an opportunity to trap Cal into giving her a baby presents itself, Jane knows she has to jump on it. The problem is, Jane thought Cal Bommer was stupid, but the more she knows him, the more she realizes that he absolutely isn’t… and now she’s expecting his baby.

This book was completely and utterly witty, funny, and sexy. Isn’t that the perfect combination? Before I read this book, I didn’t know anything about Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books, but truth being told, I couldn’t be any happier that I now know about them. It was easy to read, I got hooked with only a few pages. Sometimes you get easily hooked by book, and then the more you read the less you like it. Those are unfortunate times. However, I was hooked throughout the entire thing. I couldn’t get enough.

I expected this book to be a pretty clean romance, and that’s where I was completely surprised. It wasn’t. There was the word “fuck” and there were a LOT of arguing and yelling. Which I LOVED. I thought it would be all flowery and cheesy, but it turned out it wasn’t all that prettily embellished. I loved Susan’s writing style, it was very compelling and addictive. I definitely want to read more from this author!

One thing that I liked a little less was Jane’s character. I liked pretty much everything about her except one thing; the fact that she was so fixed on her intelligence, and other people’s lack of it. It just bugged me a bit at times, simply because I just felt like saying “get over yourself woman!” She wasn’t a snob, not completely, or at least not deliberately, but it did feel that way. I get that she’s this super intelligent woman who had to dig herself a place into a man’s world, but it just seemed like it was all she could talk about. I mean, people are more than just what their IQ says they are. And if I’m being quite honest, Jane’s character wasn’t much more than just an intelligent woman. She didn’t to have any interest outside of science, she didn’t sound like someone who I would want to hang with, and she just seemed to only know how to talk about one subject, and that is science. So, if ask me, when she wasn’t being funny and witty, she was pretty boring.

With that being said, I do think that this book was a good book. I enjoyed it a lot, and I finished pretty quickly, which I guess speaks for itself. Did I love it? No. But I would say that I more than liked it, but less than loved it. Does that make sense? I would recommend it to ANYONE who enjoys a good Contemporary Romance. It was fun, it was light, and it was good. So, what else could possibly ask for? That’s pretty darn good to begin with!
