I have always been drawn to stories of time travel. There’s something magical about connecting the past and present. I knew the book was being adapted for Hulu, but I wanted to read the book first. Wow, am I glad I did. I couldn’t it down!!!

Kindred was actually written in the late 1970’s, but the modern part of the story felt quite contemporary. The story was fast-paced and exciting. The past part takes place on a plantation during the Antebellum period. It takes an interesting look at how people “in their time” could come to accept the horrific behaviors and beliefs that were common then. At its heart, the book is exciting, heartbreaking, and courageous. Highly recommended!!

The plot was very interesting. As stories of this time often do, it made me angry and sad for what my ancestors had to go through during slavery. It makes you think if you would be able to survive. Also how her arm was injured was not what I was expecting. I just knew it was because of an angry mob or white person lol.
