Just to be clear : a homophobic man who threatens to rape you daily, frightens you, forces you to touch him even though you clearly asked to be left alone, and who controls major aspects of your life is not attractive, no matter how "hot" he is.
This story was frightening and disgusting.

It kind of breaks my heart to give this a 3. For a while it was definitely in 4/5 range, but ultimately the ending 25% or so dropped the ball.
Thoughts in bullet points because I’m lazy:
-World building was interesting and well-done. I like that we learn all the magical elements very slowly along with Finnie.
-The politics on the other hand felt very clunky. Much more info-dumpy at times. I also just wasn’t super into the political conflict either. The end felt very messy in large part due to the politics/war things.
-The ending didn’t feel as satisfying as I wanted, especially because it looks like the next book follows other characters. I would have liked their romance/story wrapped up more thoroughly.
-Valentine... I don’t get her characterization. Maybe she’s being set up for something later in the series but here...
-I liked Finnie and Frey’s romance up until he decided to switch out her birth control with a placebo. That was totally unnecessary to the story (he already bound her to this world forever without talking to her first) and it was not handled with much tact. If the author wanted her to be pregnant she could have set up an event which made her abandon her bags or just not have the stuff work or anything else really.
-At first I really enjoyed reading about all the different places in this world, but it seems unnecessarily after a while. Why did her parents need to live in another city? It felt like the author came up with all these cool cities and what they looked like/who lived there and then made the characters detour so that Finnie could look at them, even though they aren’t significant to the story.
-The other Sjofn just... didn’t play a role in Finnie’s story? That was wasted potential.
TL;DR - I’m really sad this story soured for me as it went. I wanted this to be a new favorite so so bad. It started strong, but ended feeling messy and rushed. Choices were also made that were either odd or completely unnecessary and bad.

I really enjoyed this book although it is 100% New Adult and not Young adult. This book has some issues though. The main character gets understandably upset when the main guy switcher her birth control to something harmless so she can have his child and prevents her from going back to her world but gets over it way too fast. I understand that she thought he was dead and different world custom, but still there should've been more of a conversation or something about how that is not okay.
Can't believe I just discovered this series, review coming soon!

I read this books out of order.
I just finished reading Book 3 of the series with Cora when I went back to this book. There were too many similarities between the 2 heroines and heros and even some lines were repeated. Also, I was generally disgusted by Frey's actions and attitudes, and I felt that he didn't repent enough for them at the end.
Another point: Not sure why are the heroines sound the same: "awesome, cool, okeydokey." At least, Finnish didn't always use the word "kickass."
Still, enjoyable book and it was a quick read. Some descriptions were long.

I love Kristen Ashley, seriously, first, her books are big I mean BIG lots of chapters lots of words. AWESOME!
If you have read her Chaos series and loved it, you will also love this series. Seoafin “Finnie” Wilde lost her parents when she was 15 to
a plane crash, she loved them, she misses them, when she learns she can travel to a parallel universe where every person has a twin she jumps at the chance to once again see her parents, unknown to her, her twin doesn't tell her she is to be married. and she finds herself walking down the aisle 2 minutes after she arrives. what unfolds for the next year is wild and crazy and full of heartbreak, fun,
excitement Ship rides, Elves, dragons, new friends, assassination attempts and lots of hot sex with the man from her Wildest Dreams.

Loved this book.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It wasn’t a typical KA book.
I’ll admit that I was a little hesitant to read it because it’s classified as a Fantasy romance. But I was really surprised that it was more of a mix of contemporary, historical (like) with some paranormal aspects. Now, I don’t claim to know the official definitely of “Fantasy” novels, but I wasn’t expecting what I got.
And have to say that while there were typical KA elements (he’s a hot hero), this was, in a way, more refined. I’m not sure if it was because it felt like a mix of contemporary and historical or what. The KA alpha behaviors that can bother me in her other books, worked in this. Maybe because the environment, or world is more similar to historical novels. Where it was common behavior for the men to be more dominant and the ruling class, creating all the rules and expecting to be obeyed. In some ways, her contemporary heroes are more...caveman than the guy that lives in a more "primitive" time of this series.
Everything about this book worked for me. Yes, Frey had his irritating moments when I wanted to smack him, but I loved him and Finny together. They had so much chemistry. And Finny was so spunky and strong. She was my type of character! Especially when she went all Dexter on someone! I was cheering for her when that happened.
I have to say that while I had my suspicions as to who the bad guy was, I wasn’t completely right. But I did call part of it. And I have to say that reading this book after reading Beck by Harper Sloan and that cryfest, I was totally not prepared for the deaths that happened in this book. But I can’t say I regret it because it was awesome from start to finish.

Here are my 2 concluding thoughts after I finished reading this book:
1. There's a bit of a sexist and misogynistic attitude coming from the ML that he isn't ever held accountable for and it's just kind of glossed over. The one thing the FL gets mad at him for is for sleeping with other people before they met, which just left me staring into space like this for a minute:

Out of all the questionable things he has said and done, you get mad at that??????????
2. Take a shot every time the FL says 'cool'.
