I really liked this book, which I was a bit surprised about, as the main character in this is Nesta, who has consistently been a PITA the rest of the series. I love the found family feels in this, and the deeper exploration of friends that turn into family. The dive into the magic system in the one was great. We got to see just how varied powers can be in their world. The background info on the Archeron's life before their Father's original downfall was interesting, especially since it was presented as Feyre was too young to really remember the events shared. I love love love Nesta and Cassian's interactions, and while I am not the biggest fan of spicy scenes, there was enough plot around it for me to enjoy the book. The thematic arc of women taking back their power was just *chefs kiss*. I quite like Emerie, and would love to see more of her in future installments of the series hopefully. I also really appreciate the triumphant moments that the characters get. This was such a good book. I am glad my coworker Jordan got me to continue reading the series after the disappointment of the first book.

I loved this filthy, heart wrenching, character-driven book so much. There is always room for improvement, hence the 4.25 stars, but it’s easily in my top ten now. 😭 SJM really pulled a sneaky one on us with this book. I wasn’t expecting it to turn out that way at all, and I’m so pleased with the ending. 10/10 worth the emotional turmoil of fighting through the previous 4 books.

I am a simple woman, I don’t kid myself by thinking I read this series for the plot. I don’t overly enjoy the characters, the plot or really anything. It’s very watered down fantasy which is fine! Sometimes I’m in the mood for very easy world-building and a bit of cheeky smut, but oh my god it is never-ending in this book. The little plot there is is immediately minimised by their constant shagging. Any tension in the plot fizzles out immediately because you have to read through five pages of smut before you get back to the story. As I say, sometimes you’re just in the mood for simple and easy reading, but at this stage I was bored of the world, I wanted more tension, drama and danger. I don’t exactly know what I was expecting, even in Feyre’s books, the battle scenes weren’t well written, very anti-climatic and honestly boring to read, and thus has not changed in this book.

I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking for high fantasy, but if you looking for easy reading to giggle at late at night, by all means, read away!

I was very wary of this book at the beginning only because I was not a huge Nesta fan when I started. Now she is one of my absolute favorite characters in the series, in life, in everything! She is a powerful female protagonist both physically and mentally. And she achieves that power by choosing to face and overcome her own faults (and embracing all the challenges that come with that). It was incredibly refreshing to read a book that contained so much romance and so much female choice and self-empowerment.  Loved!!

Listen. Maybe this isn’t the most high-brow literature out there, but my god. I could not read this series fast enough.
Even if Nesta has been driving you insane for the past four books, you root for her the whole time. Watching her heal and seeing what was behind her cold stare was gripping.
Seeing so much of Cassian’s point of view really made me with we has seen more or Rhys’s POV while him and Feyre were in the early stages. Every romantic miscommunication hit SO HARD when you saw it from both of their perspectives. As did the spice.

Which brings me to what we are all wondering. Does this book live up to it’s reputation for being hot as hell in July? Yes and no.
Even if Nesta and Cassian are not your favorite couple in the series, there is no denying that SJM really hits her stride with longer sex scenes in this one, and the dirty talk is much improved (sorry Rhys). Previously I was confused on why these were called the ‘fairy sex books’, as while they were hot (ACOMAF forever), there’s only a couple sex scenes per book and by the time you get to ACOWAR it’s really all plot. The spice is always worth the wait, but I don’t know if I’d consider them smut first novel later.
However. This book finally gets to a quantity of sex scenes that is befitting of the title Fairy Sex Book.
That being said if you’ve heard that it’s super out there and k*nky you’re barking up the wrong tree. It’s hot, but they don’t *actually* do anything that wild.
Call me crazy but if she has toilets in her fantasy world, she can have handcuffs. Oh well, I guess she has 3 more books to go

This is a good book; you grow to love Nesta. SJM’s depiction of PTSD is all too realistic. It’s oddly reassuring to see. I very much would like to read the original books with this knowledge of Nesta (and Cassian) as I believe they would be different.
