Dinotopia is a delightful world, one full of the author's hopes of how people could be better to each other, and how a society could keep itself in balance. It's also just a lovely idea: what if people and dinosaurs could coexist, communicate, and work together.
The artwork is beautiful, and the additional info about the process and Gurney's thoughts about creating it all are really interesting.

My boyfriend realized I'd never actually read these, so we fixed that while I was visiting. I liked the way the author worked the dinosaur stuff into the world.

I absolutely LOVE this book!!! I got it when I was about 3years old and forced my parents to read it a thousand times before I was able to read it on my own. This was the book that really motivated me when learning to read was boring. Even now I still read it at least once a year and it never gets boring. I'd be surprised if there is a kid that doesn't like this book.
Read this with my 6 yo son. We both loved it! Written in anthropological journaling style with great illustrations. I was pleased to see that there are sequels!
One of the books that made me want to become an artist, I was already a fan of dinosaurs and fantasy for life. One day I hope to be a 10th of the awesome that is James Gurney.
