Man, what a powerful book that was. I didn't know anything about Malcom going into it, and now he's definitely one of my heroes. Between reading up on him and Dr. King. It just makes me wonder where the black community would be if they both hadn't been killed almost back to back.

This is an extremely important book that everyone should read. The middle third or so is a bit tiresome, slightly repetitive as Malcolm drives some points home. But overall the book shows Malcolm to have been a brilliant mind with a good heart who spoke the truth as he believed it to be no matter what the cost to himself. He dedicated his life for what he believed in, and in my opinion, the beliefs he arrived at toward the end of his life are perfect. I believe he was widely misunderstood by whites and blacks alike. I wish he were here now to help guide us through the Trump presidency.

This is a fascinating and compelling read, and all I could wonder at the end was "what if?" If Malcolm X hadn't been assassinated, what would he have ended up doing?

I am really glad I read this again as an adult, and that I listened to it as an audiobook. There are so many things I can say, but most of all that while things are incrementally better than they were in his time, we have a long way to go.
