It was an extremely slow burn at first. But it was so atmospheric and i liked the characters so it was easy to follow along with their days. The plot doesn’t start picking up untold the later half of the book. This was an overall enjoyable read for me.

goes absolutely wild in the last 100 pages and especially that last paragraph oh my god

shouldn't have been sold as a gothic. It needs more than a sad lady in a fancy house and
an abusive husband
for a book to be a gothic.

The prose was good, the plot predictable and slight. I liked this writer's book The Familiars a lot, so I have to hope this was just a bit of a dud.

I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down!

*dreamy sigh* I do enjoy a good gothic novel— although I felt that the last chapter could have been dropped.

It took be a bit to read it and the build up was very long but the end was so good. I could not stop reading and it was not what I was expecting. I absolutely adore the character and I was sad to see some of them go.

Wow! I’m glad I took a chance on this one! I was intrigued that it would be a “dark secrets”-type historical fiction…and oh my IT WAS! Sooo good!
I wasn’t too sure during the first few pages, but kept going, and it quickly became a very interesting bingeread!
Very curious to check out her other books!
