I was hesitant to read this book. After reading the blurb, I wasn't hooked. After recommendations (thanks Paula!), I decided to give it a try, and I am beyond happy that I did! The first few chapters were a little confusing, but from there on, the book flowed well. The story was told mainly from Finnie's POV with a few chapters from Frey. Kristen is a very descriptive and intelligent author. I could imagine scenes like a movie due to her details.
I immediately adored Finnie and grew to love her. She had all the spunk and courage that I love to see in a heroine. I wish I had half her sense of adventure! Frey was the ultimate alpha, but I loved his tender side that he often showed to Finnie. There were elves, witches, magic, dragons, all the great things you need in a fantasy. However, there was also a story about a lonely woman that would go to any links for the lover of her parents. There was also a story of epic love and would that love ultimately destroy the person? There was no large CH, but it does have an open ending for the next book in the series. I am so happy it's out, and I can read it soon.
If you are a fan of Outlander Series or epic romances, I highly recommend this book! You don't have to a para fan to enjoy this book!
"She waits for me at windows and buys me dragons. There are reasons we walk this earth. I'm coming to realize mine."
"Always look forward. Always look to where you're going. Never waste time on where you've been. You've been there so you don't have to take that time and wasting any time, even a breath is a mistake. "

WOW!!!!! This was the 3rd series I read by Kristen Ashley. I absolutely love her books!!!! They are always filled with humor. Always make me laugh out loud while reading. Love, love love it! I love time travel stories.
All of her series are fabulous: Dream Man, Colorado Mountain, Chaos, Unfinished Hero, Rock Chick, The 'Burg, The Three, Magdolene... Every main character in a Kristen Ashley book are so funny, especially their friends.

So, I honestly enjoyed this book, and it's probably rated a 3.5. However, it did have some issues for me.
The book is about a young woman, named Finnie, who is adventurous, and lives life to the fullest. Sadly though, after 15 years, she still mourns the loss of her parents. She discovers the fact there is a parallel universe, where in it each person has a twin. She arranges with a witch to have herself and her twin switch places; both of which are aware and agreeable. Upon being transferred, she discovers that her twin left out some major details; like the fact she was to be getting married to The Drakkar imminently.
The story mainly follows Finne and Drakkar's relationship, which I was fine with. There were a lot of fun bits of lore added in the book, for example the dragons, elves, and the fact the people of the world could communicate with animals. The problem is, they all were mentioned mostly in passing and took a very large back seat to the relationship with Finne and Drakkar. As I said, it wasn't a bad thing, but I would have loved more actual meat to the lore she introduced!
The other issue I had was the amount of place descriptions. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy for a writer to paint a picture for me- with both place settings and character looks/attire. It just felt that a vast portion of the book was locked in Finnie's head describing what she saw. That being said, Kristen Ashley did a fine job with these descriptions. They were worded very well, and the images in mind were quite beautiful based off her descriptions. I think I could have done with just a 'wee' bit less of them.
The last issue I had was with The Drakkar himself,
Honestly though, the book was well written and despite the negative points, I really did enjoy it still. Finnie was a delightful character, not whiny, or over the top spoiled and harsh as many heroines are. Another understated character, that I would very much have loved to see more of was Valentine. Frankly, many of the characters in the book were fantastic and had great personalities! Characters can make or break a book for me, and because she did so well with them, it definitely helped me overlook the negatives.
If you are looking for a fantasy book, with heavy focus on the romance between the characters and lots of sexy time, but are okay without a lot of deep delving lore and moments of proportional battle epicness, then this is the one for you! I did very much enjoy Kristen Ashley's actual writing, it flowed nicely and was a cozy read. I look forward to reading the sequels to her world (In which I have heard are even better!)

as it was a bit hard for me to get past the way he manipulated Finnie, by binding her to the world and trapping her into a pregnancy. So, despite his otherwise, hotness.. he left a very bad taste in my mouth that I rarely get with characters, that I am suppose to root for. I enjoy an alpha male, and one can certainly act like an ass and still be enjoyed by me; but Drakkar's manipulation was well above being an alpha male. Of course, I understand that the women of the world were almost nothing more than property to the men, but laws or not- wrong is wrong; and that was just wrong! However, he did redeem himself by owning up to it all- which is more than I can say for most men!Honestly though, the book was well written and despite the negative points, I really did enjoy it still. This would probably be a pretty decent fantasy romance if I could get past the complete and utter disregard for the FMC’s autonomy. She is treated as property. He ties he to his world without her consent which I could get over. But when he swaps out her birth control without her knowledge that was it for me. It’s such a disgusting thing to do and he doesn’t even feel any turmoil over the decision

I generally liked it, but it must be noted that it needed editing ; some parts should have been cut, and it was quite repetitive especially with phrases like " how cool", " so awesome " etc.
The heros actions annoyed me sometimes, like when he makes significant decisions without consulting tge heroine.
But these things aside it was enjoyable

**Reread 2024**
I love rereading Kristen Ashley books for those gut punch moments.
The more notable ones in this book were the Viola drama right after they got back from Houllebec and that time Valentine told Finnie what Frey did on the sly. What I dislike is that both times, Frey got a pass instead of him groveling or simply apologizing for hurting Finnie. With the Viola drama, it even got to a point where Finnie actually said she was in the wrong. I don't care of it's how it was done in that world but her feelings are never invalid.
I skimmed a lot of parts this reread because I only really cared about their relationship rather than the plot. It seems the timeline of this book was actually parallel to Lahn/Circe and Tor/Cora's books.
Like always, by the end of this book, I am not convinced to reread the book about Apollo and Ilsa because I hate when the FMC is a stand-in or feels like a replacement to the MMC's former love. Ugh.
