Paralel universes, dragons and romance? Well, that sounded something I would enjoy.
Unfortunately, this was pretty boring. The main character, even though she was a Mary Sue, was likeable enough for me to finish this book (I did skim some parts but I finished it!). The "love interest" was an asshole which is nothing new. For some reason, if he is a manly man (in this one a dragon king and a lord of elves. Yep, both) he needs to be a controlling asshole. What was supposed to be a sweet romance was basically a toxic relationship. That being said, it was interesting to read about because whenever the main character saw something toxic he did, she would get mad but in the next scene he would be all charming and/or manipulative so she would blame herself and feel bad that she was even mad. That was a nice portrayal of a toxic relationship if you are looking for one. For a cute, heart warming romance, probably look somewhere else. Since I am (almost) okay with adult fantasy romance books having toxic relationships (unless younger readers read them as sweet) I am pretty tolerant to alpha male assholeness. That being said, Drakkar was so good at being manipulative I found myself caring for him at the end. I seriously think this book would have been a really good dark romance novel. Maybe I just felt bad for the main character. She was so naive and she loved EVERYONE unless they did or said something terrible to her. I actually thought she was in her early 20s instead of 30 years old.
As for the plot, it didn't have one. And the one we had was very boring. It had a lot of bad descriptions of stuff that I didn't care about and most of the "adventures" were told to us instead of shown.
Unfortunately, not a read I would recommend to anyone. (well, maybe people who are into controlling, asshole characters in their love stories)

I was hooked right from the start with this book. I listened to the audio version, so I will say that I did have to rewind quite a but during descriptive scenes, mainly because I was trying to picture it as it was being described.
I love Finnie and the way she took on her new life. She’s much stronger than people give credit for and I think it’s because she’s guided by her emotions which makes her a great person and leader. I loved when she stood up to Frey, and the scene with the executions, because she’s not a pushover. She isn’t some delicate flower to be handled gently.
I would have loved more POV chapters from Frey because he’s an interesting character. I also would have loved more scenes showing his relationship with the dragons, because the fact he can call on them is cool as shit. Some of his actions definitely made me want to throttle him, but you could tell he loved his wife and just wanted a happy life with her.
I personally love epilogue chapters, so I’m sad there wasn’t one about Finnie and Frey finally having the baby. But seeing as the author has introduced characters from the following books, I’m hoping we’ll at least know the gender of the baby.
2.5/5 on the spice scale. Because I listened to the audio, it was hard to gauge how spicy the scenes were. Especially when there’s only a single narrator. There are definitely a few scenes but I wouldn’t say they were super explicit. This book was heavily focused on their emotional connection which I loved.

What a fantastic read! Romance, passion and adventure all wrapped up in a fairy tale setting for a modern day woman. Love it! Anyone who enjoys fairy tales or game of thrones will appreciate this one.

Ok, so this was actually a reasonably entertaining romance (and don't be fooled by the fantasy setting a romance is exactly what this is) and there are lots of sweet moments as our H & h fall in love. Unfortunately our H does something really wrong very early in the piece which I just couldn't get past. And just when I was softening towards him after a lot of the aforementioned sweetness he does something else which clearly demonstrates that (despite protestations to the contrary) he really doesn't love the h as a person in her own right, he is only capable of loving her as a valued possession or pet. And to compound matters this is behavior is never fully addressed ( at least not to my satisfaction). Yes our h finds out what he did - both things at once - and she is angry and yells at him and everything she says is RIGHT and TRUE. Yet immediately, & I do mean immediately - she hasn't even finished yelling at him before it happens - he is shot and supposedly killed leading our h to lashings of guilt for ever yelling at her twue wuv because what he did doesn't matter (umm yes it really does. It show he doesn't value you or consider you have any rights to anything including your own life and body) so when he is miraculously returned from the dead all is wonderful again and the h tells the H she is a bad person for yelling at him (umm no she isn't he totally deserved that and more). Sure the H apologises but that is it. H: I am sorry for x & x but I did it because I love you. h: No, No, it is ok I am a horrible evil person and should never have yelled at you. Then it is all happy, happy, joy, joy the end. GAG!
Wow Fantasy world with elves and dragons! Wasn’t sure it was my thing.
The heroine has a heart of gold and dimly want to spend time with those that she lost too fast.
The hero is honoring his duty however is intrigued by a wife he thought he hated.
Add in witches, time warp’s and twins ... you have an awesome story!
