I've read a lot of "clutch and grab" (as my mother calls them) in my time, but this one was verging on pornographic. Not that I have a problem with it, but it just felt really gratuitous, and didn't seem to go with the Austen-ness.

The story itself was a lot of fun. I'll be checking out her other novels.

I am not sure I am ever going to finish this book. That comment was left by me back in 2017. I finally finished the book today. Oh boy, it was bad.

The premise for this book was quite imaginative, but extremely unbelievable. Im not saying that I didn't enjoy the book, because I did, in the beginning. The problem lies in the length of the courtship between Flip and Magnus. They knew one another a single day and were hopelessly in love? Really? Sorry, but I don't buy it. No one can form a truly lasting relationship in 24 hours. I somewhat enjoyed Ms. Cready's dalliances in Austenland, so to speak, but I believe she ruined it with all the sex. At least for me. As a fan of Jane Austen, I find it disheartening to see the love story of Pride and Prejudice turned into erotica. I don't know what I was expecting when I picked up this book, I guess nothing really, which is exactly what I got.

Wow! This was quite a steamy read. I will never look at Pride & Prejudice the same way again. Flip Allison works at a college in Pennsylvania as a bird specialist. She has an irritating ex-husband and a few close friends, several which make up her book club. The pick for their weekly discussion is Pride & Prejudice. Flip would rather read something sexy than the subdued romance between Darcy and Elizabeth, and expresses her frustration about the novel to her friends. The friends are overheard at a coffee shop by Magnus Knightley, an Austen scholar, who becomes annoyed with the womens’ lack of propriety for his favorite book. Later that afternoon, unable to focus on her research, Flip goes to a massage therapist who encourages her to imagine herself in a favorite book. Instead of a racy novel, Flip finds herself in the middle of a scene from Pride & Prejudice, and soon realizes that Darcy is anything but the proper gentleman she imagined him to be. After she wakes up from her massage, Flip finds out that Austen’s classic novel has been rewritten to include her and Darcy in a less than honorable situation. She grudgingly enlists the help of Magnus Knightley, the Austen scholar whom she can’t stand. Together they attempt to return Pride & Prejudice to its intended version.

I haven’t read many time travel books so I was unsure of what to expect from Seducing Mr. Darcy. However, I just recently watched Bridget Jones’s Diary and found that I enjoy the bantering between two people who can’t stand each other but have a secret attraction at the same time. The relationship between Flip and Magnus matched the animosity between Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride & Prejudice. Magnus was so charming and scholarly that I completely fell in love with his character, I mean who wouldn’t want a guy that will watch Colin Firth with you? The actual plot of the novel was pretty far out there, I mean of course it’s not possible to jump into your favorite novel and become a character in it, but it’s fun to pretend. I found myself laughing at scenes that Austen most certainly never would have written, which made the entire book that much more entertaining. The love scenes between Flip and Magnus were very passionate and steamy which of course raises the rating of any romance novel for me. The other three time traveling novels by Gwyn Cready look just as wonderful as Seducing Mr. Darcy, and I can’t wait to read them.

This is another book that uses the idea of time travel and Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. This time the lead, Flip, ends up in the novel through a mystical massage. She has sex with Darcy and changes the ending of the novel – back in reality; if she doesn’t make it back eventually her name will replace that of the character she was – in all published versions of the book for all the world to see. She goes back to the novel to fix it and inadvertently brings three others with her (one of whom is an English Darcy-like love interest for her). Pride & Prejudice gets restored to almost its former self, however Flip & Magnus (who by now have overcome the obstacles in their way and are an official “stars and fireworks” item of the true trashy romance variety) are worried Lizzy & Darcy are not actually happy, so return to the novel again – this time ending up as Lizzy & Darcy themselves, on their wedding night – to find Lizzy & Darcy are actually happy but they would like to play at being them for a while, as who wouldn’t want to feel part of the perfect romance..
Lots of poor writing, ridiculous set-ups, one dimensional characters and over the top sex.

Time Travel, Magical Pastries, and lots of Sexy Times. This maybe one of the wackiest Austenesque I've ever read. 😆

20/12 - I read this almost exclusively for the romance. I didn't like the way the author messed with the Pride and Prejudice back story. I don't agree with the extra dimensions she gave Darcy (not that I don't think he would have had extra dimensions, just not these ones), Cready misjudged him and what Austen would have written if she'd written a back story for Darcy. I think this author got Darcy completely wrong, he would never have had an affair with a mostly unknown woman on a stone wall along a public road.

Plusz helyzetkomikumra ezeknél a részeknél is akad rengeteg lehetőség.

It was interesting. It was cliche. I wish it had a cover I could be caught reading.
